NORTH CENTRAL'S 3RD ANNUAL CNC COMPLETION CAMP IS A SUCCESS
North Central Michigan College's third annual CNC Completion Camp (C3) ran from June 26 to July 21.  Eight students completed the unique summer program.  Each student earned 8-14 credits to receive their Certificate of Completion during an intensive, four-week training.  Students came from East Jordan, Pellston and Wolverine High Schools as well as from North Central's college program.

Full financial assistance was provided to all students thanks to WOCTEP (Waganakising Odawa Career & Technical Education Program) and SEEDS (Sustainable Employment & Economic Development Strategies), with additional transportation funding from Triune Trailers and the Northern Lakes Economic Alliance.

A graduation celebration was held on Monday, August 14 at the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians Government Center in Harbor Springs.

2017 JOHN NEWTON AWARD RECIPIENT - LISA BLANCHARD
Each June, Char-Em United Way awards caring individuals in our community with a very special award.  John Newton was an active member of our community.  Not only was he a Char-Em United Way board member and president but he also volunteered his time and talents for many other local organizations.

Unfortunately, his term with Char-Em United Way ended when he suffered massive injuries in a car accident in September 2000.  A model for tenacity and perseverance, he fought his way back from his injuries.  He had to relearn how to perform all those daily tasks that most of us take for granted.  Eventually he was able to return to work for Bank One.  However, he was unexpectedly taken from us in the Fall of 2001 by complications of the accident.  More
