AMBASSADOR Spotlight

MEET CHAMBER AMBASSADOR ASHLEY SONNEVIL
Ashley joined our Ambassador Committee in January of 2017 on the recommendation of one of our previous Ambassadors.  They felt that Ashley would be a perfect fit for our committee.,,,,and they were right.

After graduating from  the Leadership Charlevoix Country program, Ashley was eager and excited to get involved and give back to Charlevoix.  As an Ambassador "it is important that we act as a resource for the Chamber and all of its members.  We are here to support them in anyway, which strengthens and extends the service that the Chamber provides."

Being an Ambassador, Ashley enjoys learning about the community and having the opportunity to really become an active member of it.  "Being a transplant of Northern Michigan, I love meeting all of the people and am
continuously amazed at what an inspiring and supportive community
Charlevoix is.  Everyday, I am so excited to be in Charlevoix and to be able to help in anyway that I can.  Volunteering is extremely important as it allows me to make a real impact on the things that I am most passionate about.  Being able to lend a hand or spread the word for something I believe in is very satisfying.

Ashley is employed by Munson Healthcare Charlevoix Hospital as their Human Resources Generalist.  In her free time she enjoys traveling, being on their boat, snowboarding and "most importantly spending time with my three amazing Siamese cats.

CITY News

CITY HYDRANT FLUSHING flush
As summer draws to an end, the City of Charlevoix Public Works Department plans to begin flushinng all of the water mains throughout the City's distribution system.  This flushing will start the week of September 25, and should be completed within one week.

It is necessary to flush the system to help remove the sedimentation that can accumulate in the water mains throughout the year.  Over the course of the week, hydrants across town will systematically be opened to help scour and flush the lines and help remove any accumulated build up.

During this time, you may experience rusty or discolored water.  This is normal during the flushing due to loosening up any sediment that may be in the main lines.  If you experience rust colored water, run water through an indoor or outdoor tap for a few minutes, or until the water runs clear.  Avoid doing laundry during this time, as the clothes may become stained

Please call the Department of Public Works at 231.547.3276 if you have any questions.

CONGRESSIONAL APP CHALLENGEapp
Businesses from Michigan's 1st Congressional District are encouraged to participate in the 2017 Congressional App Challenge.

Officially launched in 2015, this competition is a nationwide event intended to engage students' creativity and encourage their participation in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) fields.  This competition allows students to compete with peers in their own district by creating and exhibiting their software application, or "app", for mobile, tablet, or computer devices on a platform of their choice.

To make this opportunity available to students, we need mentors and judges.  A mentor businessman or woman would help students start brainstorming apps and point them towards good resources as they seek to make their ideas a reality. More
