But by the content of their character...
Here at Black Cat Comics in rockin' Milpitas we know that greatness comes from conflict. A hero is measured by the villains or circumstances they overcome. As we observe Martin Luther King Day, we honor a man who stood up to insurmountable circumstances, and inspired others to do the same. Martin Luther King lived in a world that needed to be changed, and he dedicated, and ultimately sacrificed, his life to that change. MLK Day reminds us that one person can change the world, and that we all have a responsibility to make the world better. Celebrating MLK also reminds us that there is still a lot of work to do in ending conflict in our country. Wherever you stand on our current political spectrum, it is clear to everyone that there is conflict ahead for the American people. But it is this very conflict that will, ultimately, bring our country together, and stronger than ever before. The Civil War bitterly divided our nation, but at the end of the war we were a better country. One hundred years later, during the tumultuous 1960's, America was once again torn in half by the Viet Nam war and the Civil Rights movement. But by the 1970's we had come together, found understanding, and became a better nation. Now it is time to do that again. It's time for everyone to be honest and open with themselves and each other so we can work out all of our conflicts and become a better America. Martin Luther King used words and non-violent action to change people's opinions and to change the world. It is time to use those methods to bring people together again. Superman says evil thrives where good men do nothing. Don't be part of the problem. Get out there and be part of the solution. Speak up. Speak out. Stand up. Stand out. Make your voice heard. Make your opinion matter! For more examples of how heroes can change the world, check out some of this week's new comics...

The "vampire with a soul" returns this week in Angel Season 11 #1 from Dark Horse Comics! Angel has spent most of his eternal afterlife trying to make amends for evil deeds done in his distant past. Now the demon Illyria has shown him that his past and future are intertwined. Can Angel ensure the future by fixing his past? We've loved Dark Horse's continuation of the Whedonverse and look forward to this third series starring our favorite vampire crime fighter. Part Super Hero, part crime noir, part horror, part sci-fi, Angel Season 11 seems to have a little something for any fan of comics. - Causey

Marvel's next big crossover is here! With the Marvel universe being attacked by a monstrous group known as the leviathons it's up to all of our favorite super heroes to team up and take them down. Uncanny X-men writer Cullen Bunn joins forces with artist Steve McNiven to bring us this five issue series. With McNiven art this comic is going to look fantastic and I can't wait to see how this story unfolds with everyone working together after the events of Civil War II.   Monsters Unleashed #1   comes out   this Wednesday   so be sure grab your copy. - Anthony

From Harry Potter to Merlin we all love ourselves a cool wizard. And Wizord is certainly one of the coolest. Wizord relocates to New York city and sets out to be the celebrity rock star wizard we all want to be. But rival wizards and a not so clean past may prevent that from happening. Written by Charles Soule and eyepopping art by Ryan Brown this looks to be another must have book from Image.   Curse Words #1 is out   this Wednesday   be sure to check it out. - Al

Sex, Drugs, Rock & Roll and Death? This fun, creepy look at the darker side of rock n' roll is expertly drawn and well written by Joe Harris and Megan Hutchison. In Rockstars #1 we meet two groupies whose dream it is to 'hook up' with one of their rock idols. Mayhem ensues and in Rockstars #2, we see only one groupie remaining, but she's changed ... somehow. And the only two people who are trying to figure out what's really going on have just been discovered by the darklings who have less than groovy intentions. Check out this latest issue today! Enjoy! - Francie

With our recent move we've lost all the awesome reviews we had on Yelp. Whenever a business relocates they remove the old reviews and treat it as a brand new business. Our reviews look pretty meager! We could use your help in spicing them up! Thanks in advance!
