Black Cat Comics

Weekly Newsletter

February 15, 2017

Make some room for the little guy,
Here at Black Cat Comics in rockin' Milpitas we sub-title ourselves as "Your one-stop shop for all things Super Hero!" and we work really hard to keep that as true today as when it was written many moons ago, but we also understand that Comics are about much more than folks saving the world with their underwear on the outside. This weekend, our February Publisher Sale puts the spotlight on the Independent Publishers who often go unrecognized and are the unsung heroes of the hero industry. We always say that people get into the business of Comics because of their passion for the material and not for money or fame, and nowhere is that more true than the world of Independent Comics. While the indies have their share of superheroes and top-selling titles, the independent landscape really consists of writers, artists, and editors just working hard to get their stories out there for you to enjoy. Some smaller publishers, like Archie Comics , have been around just as long as Marvel and DC, others, like Valiant , are reinvented versions of earlier comic companies, and still others, like BOOM! Studios , are fairly new to the crazy business of Comics. All of these companies make their way by creating universes that appeal to fans outside the mainstream. Maybe they do personal stories about regular people, maybe they feature heroes and villains in a heavier and darker format, or maybe they create new stories from animated features like Peanuts or Invader Zim. Whatever the case, these publishers know that they have great material for every kind of comic fan, and this week we want to bring all of these publishers and their titles to your attention. So, this Saturday and Sunday, pick up anything from an independent publisher at 25% OFF! Archie, Valiant, BOOM!, Oni Press , Titan , Slave Labor Graphics , Udon , Bongo , and anyone else that we haven't already featured (Marvel, DC, Image, Dark Horse, Dynamite or IDW). Got it straight? Great! Get in here this weekend and treat yourself to something new! And in case you forgot that it's Wednesday, here's what's new this week from the Big Two and everyone else...

Weekly Comics for the week of 2/15/17

The Saga of the Super Sons that began in the Bronze Age of Comics continues this week in Super Sons #1 ! DC scribe Peter J. Tomasi and Earth 2 artist Jorge Jiminez bring you the ongoing adventures of the new Superboy and Robin, Son of Batman, in the Rebirth series that everyone has been waiting for. It's not easy living in the shadow of the World's Finest, but these two want to prove they have what it takes to be Justice League level heroes. They'll be taking on new villains and maybe a certain co-star's grandfather, so make sure you put this title on your sub list. All the Super-Titles have been great, so if there is one you're not following, check it out this week! - Causey
Warren Elis returns to DC to reboot the Wildstorm universe. I've always been a big fan of Warren Ellis. His stories are always so out there and different. Transmetropolitan and Planetary are two of my favorites. Angela Spica,Grifter,Voodo and Jenny Sparks are in interesting hands. I can't wait to see where he takes them. Pick up  The Wild Storm #1   this Wednesday   and don't forget to come by this weekend for our Publisher Sale. -Al
Alexandria is being overrun by a massive walker herd, Rick has sent his top soldiers to try to lead most of the walkers to the ocean in an attempt to save their community. Seeing how the survivors will deal with this horde now that the gates of Alexandria have fallen is going to be an action packed issue with some amazing two page spreads by Charlie Adlard. While all of this is happening to Rick's group the Hilltop survivors are slowly making their way to Alexandria, hopefully they will meetup in time to fight the walker horde.  The Walking Dead #164   is out this week so be sure to pick it up and get your zombie fix for the week. - Anthony
Ever wanted to learn more about the original mythology behind Odin, Thor and Loki? Neil Gaiman's Norse Mythology book is a fantastic, comprehensive who's who of Asgard. He retells the original myths of these larger than life gods in a grimm-fairy-ish style. It's a quick read, appropriate for young readers on up to young at heart. And if you're like me, you know that everything Neil does is masterful and a must-read. This book is no exception! Pick up your copy today! Enjoy! - Francie

With our recent move we've lost all the awesome reviews we had on Yelp. Whenever a business relocates they remove the old reviews and treat it as a brand new business. Our reviews look pretty meager! We could use your help in spicing them up! Thanks in advance!
