February is one of our busiest months. Across our communities, we celebrate Georgia History Month and Black History Month with special programs
and displays. Coinciding with the 27th annual Black Heritage Festival, our Black History Month programming celebrates many different types of legacies: legacy of activism, legacy of arts, and legacy of innovation. We've also partnered with several local organizations to present a series of programs on local legacies. Check out all of our Black History Month programs on our website.
Not sure where to start your research on Georgia's rich history? Need help finding just the right biographical information on an African American pioneer? Just ask us! Library staff members are always ready to help our youngest visitors find information for their school projects too.
And, finally, our partnership with AARP is back with free tax help for everyone. We will be offering assistance with taxes at 4 locations. For more information, click here.
Read on to see all the great things we have planned for February!

The Rotary Club of Effingham County's Herb Jones Volunteer of the Year Award nominee from Rincon Library,
Danielle Birzer (C).
Dani first volunteered at the Rincon Library's Summer Reading Program kickoff party in June. The theme was superheroes, so Dani came dressed in an all-out Batman costume. She was a huge hit with the crowd of over 450 people. She mingled with the kids and parents for two hours, giving families some great opportunities for photos.
Since June, Dani has appeared in costume at two additional programs. She also brought costumed friends to the kickoff party and to one of her other appearances. Dani also cheerfully pitched in with toddler storytime on a spur-of-the-moment basis.
Dani's enjoyment of cosplay is obv
ious in her interaction with the kids, which makes their library experiences so much more enjoyable.
