Silent Auction May 5

Our amazing community created so many beautiful, funny, heartfelt bluebirds that it was almost impossible to limit the Silent Auction to 35.

To see the final collection, scroll down . They will be on display at  The Haven  as part of the First Fridays ArtWalk on May 5 , and will be sold on the same day in a Silent Auction.

However, all the bluebirds are fundraising for foster children - because the other 270 works of art and heart will be in the May 5 Bluebird Parade. They will fly down the pedestrian mall and land at The Haven at 5:30, where anyone who makes  a donation to help foster children  can choose their favorite parade bluebird.

All funds raised will go toward helping children in foster care by training and supporting foster care families, and by giving foster children a voice in court through the advocacy work of CASA Volunteers. Funds will be equally divided between Piedmont CASA and  the Foster Care Adoption Awareness Coalition (FCAAC)

We highly recommend registering for the Silent Auction in advance. That way, when you arrive at The Haven on May 5, all you have to do for an auction number is give us your name. Register here. You can also place an Absentee Bid, but that is optional.

If you can't make it to the Silent Auction, you can place an Absentee Bid when you register to bid. PLEASE NOTE: you will need the number of the Bluebird Art you wish to bid on. The artwork number is in front of each artist's name, below.

Bluebird Book
Warby Parker Box lined with hand-marbled paper
6.75" x 3"
Encaustic waxes cover the top adorned with a cubic zirconia jewel and a metal "found object" from a walk near a construction site. Inside, 14 book pages are made of drafting film, with alcohol ink designs. Some pages have bluebird cutouts from the marbled paper. Pages are attached with bluebird breast-colored fiber and adorned with fanciful blue feathers. This artist book was playfully created with love, hope, and prayers in my heart for children in foster care.

Tiles in the style of the world-famous Delft Blue "earthenware porcelain", produced since the 17th century in the city of Delft, Holland. Decorated with images of bluebirds and flowers reminiscent of designs found in antique tiles. These handformed iles are composed of paperclay and then painted with gesso, acrylic paints and sealed with an acrylic high-gloss clearcoat. This art is dedicated to my late grandmother, for whom bluebirds had very special meaning.

24. Toni Lockhart
A small art quilt of my own design, this whimsical little bird sparkles with beads and is surrounded by metallic fabric. The bird is blue but I've managed to incorporate some of my favorite color, purple, in the background and irregular borders. I've also embellished the background with swirls of gold beads and finished it off with a few ribbons.

25. Isabelle Eastham
Acrylic on canvas, 20" x 16"
It is a very colorful, vibrant, and abstract rendition of a bluebird! Painted with love and hope! All in an effort to show support for a dear friend going through the adoption process herself!

26. Madeleine Hendrick
Acrylic on canvas, 16" x 16"

27. Judy Nix
Glass beads, 2.5" x 3"
The artist has requested that whoever wins this little gem donate it to a child in foster care.

28. Betsy Cassidy

29. Patsy Miller Nesbit
Stained glass, 10.5" x 12.5" framed
Bluebird of happiness? No, "Bluebird Of Hope". As I look around, I see such brokenness: a broken world filled with broken people. My art reflects this state for I use broken glass. To symbolize what God can do with my/our broken hearts, lives, and world, I arrange the pieces and shards making a new creation of beauty. Sonlight illuminates the resulting image. Therefore I have Hope.

30. Liz Schneiders
Fleece, felt, flannel, 21" x 49"
My little guy was inspired by all of the bluebirds who have raised families in the bird box behind my deck. Because I am an art quilter, I have made him from fleece, felt, flannel and other materials from my fabric stash. He is hand sewn and made use an improvisational design of my own. His stick was found along the edge of the woods by my house. I hope that his charm will help a child at Piedmont CASA find a forever home.

Watercolor, 6" x 6"
