The Glen Ellyn School District 41 Board of Education wishes everyone happy holidays and a wonderful and safe new year! Thank you to all District 41 community members for your support and interest in our schools throughout the year. There are many important and exciting decisions to be made this coming 2017 and your engagement with us is a key component of the success of the District. It indeed takes all of us to educate the over 3500 children in our community and they all count on us to keep them at the heart of our decisions.

We want to take the opportunity during this "season of giving" to thank the hundreds of District 41 community members and teachers and staff who donate their time and financial resources supporting our families who are very grateful for the support this time of year.

With gratitude this holiday season,
Erica Nelson
President

2017-2018 Academic Calendar Approved

The Board of Education approved the calendar for 2017/2018 at the December 5 Board meeting. To view the calendar,  Click Here .

The Calendar Committee annually convenes to discuss and determine the school calendar for the next school year to present to the school board. In response to feedback from parents, the committee started their work earlier this year in order to present a draft to the Board prior to winter break. The Calendar Committee comprised of representative stakeholders from the Board of Education, the support staff union, the teachers' union, the administration, the Executive Assistant to the Superintendent and the Superintendent work collaboratively to present a recommended calendar for Board action.

How does the D41 calendar compare to the D87 calendar?
The committee reviewed and discussed the Glenbard High School District 87 calendar, specifically their earlier start date. The committee weighed the impact of starting earlier and chose not to mirror the Glenbard 87 calendar. Glenbard is ending their 1st semester with the start of the winter break. The Calendar Committee recognizes calendars between Districts 41 and 87 have not always been an exact match. There are many nuances to both calendars (i.e., days off for parent teacher conferences, the fall break) but when possible District 41 does try to align to District 87 to support families with students in both districts.  Winter and spring breaks continue to align to District 87.

Community Survey Results
Thank you to the community members who participated in the survey sent out to the 12,000 households in our district boundaries. The survey asked about the community's overall satisfaction with the school district along with specific questions related to proposed facilities projects. The Board of Education will rely on the survey data as they discuss the possibility of a referendum question to help fund projects such as building an addition to replace the portable classrooms at Hadley Junior High and addressing infrastructure (health and life safety) needs at all five schools. If you are interested in hearing the Board discussions, please attend the upcoming Board meetings or watch them online
The Board hopes you will tune in to this conversation!

Staff Culture and Climate
A staff culture and climate survey is administered annually to all District 41 employees. Results for this year were presented to the Board of Education on December 5, 2016 by the survey company HUMANeX.
Click Here to review the results. The overall results found the staff in District 41 are satisfied and engaged in their work and showed improvement in many rating areas from the first to second year of assessment. The building principals work with their staff to reinforce areas of strength and to identify areas of growth/improvement and determine actions to address them.

This is a good example of the continuous improvement model that District 41 works toward each day. Thank you to all staff members for your dedication and hard work!

Long-Range Plan 2017-2021
Superintendent Gordon presented the Board with a final draft of the Long-Range Plan for review. The plan will be formally launched at the January 23, 2017 Board meeting. The collaborative process to create a new Long-Range Plan brought all of our stakeholders together including community members, Board members, parents, staff, and students.

The final draft of the plan is posted on the district website for review,
Click Here. This plan will guide the work of the district through 2021.
