Trinity Rep visits Borderlands Theater

Trinity Rep in Providence, Rhode Island  received a Theater Communication Group (TCG) Audience (R)Evolution  Travel Grant to build on their two year relationship with Rhode Island Latino Arts. They visited Cleveland Public Theatre and Borderlands Theater in the Old Pueblo to learn more about our community engagement strategies and methods of collaborating with different sectors of the community in projects like Barrio Stories, Sonoran Shadows, Mas and Standing With Saguaros.

We spent two days talking theatre and community
Touring Barrio Anita's Oury Center, location of Sonoran Shadows.
/audience engagement, visiting some of Tucson's gems like the Sosa Carillo Fremont House, La Pilita Cultural Center, El Tiradito Shrine and Barrio Anita. It was great to break tortillas with the east cost group at El Minuto Cafe and Anita Street Market, while we learned about the partnership between Rhode Island Latino Arts and Trinity Rep that hopes to bring the oral histories of Providence's Latinx population to life through theatre.  It's worth mentioning this is the third project of this type building steam across the country. Historians and theater makers in Pueblo, CO and Albuquerque, NM are exploring similar ideas and have contacted us about it. Meanwhile we're several months into research for the next Barrio Stories project focused on Barrio Anita, premiering April 2018.
