Festival Foods Grants $21,500 in Turkey Trot Proceeds to the Boys & Girls Club

It was another record breaking year for the Festival Foods Turkey Trot!  This February, Boys & Girls Club and YMCA staff from from eight Wisconsin communities, including Eau Claire, traveled to Green Bay to receive $21,500 each from 2013 event proceeds.

"Each year it amazes me how much this event continues to grow and the positive impact it has in the community," said Mark Skogen, President of Festival Foods. "This event would not have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors, volunteers, and charity partners. We are especially thankful to all of the individuals and families who joined us on Thanksgiving morning to make this event a huge success," he commented.

"Blue Chip" Club Members Take Special Limo Trip
to UWEC Blugolds Basketball Game

With help from the Eau Claire Police Department, UWEC Athletics and Rock 'N Roll To Go, the Mary Markquart Center held the first "Blue Chips" Event for lucky Club members. This new award program allowed 24 Boys & Girls Club members to take a Rock 'n Roll To Go limousine ride to the UWEC Bluegold Men's and Women's doubleheader basketball games vs. UW Stout in January.

Not only did the members get to ride to the game in style, they were also accompanied by Eau Claire police offiers in full uniform, got to be escorted to their reserved seats, received free food and snacks at the game, and got to meet with the head coaches and players after the game!

These members earned this trip through their overall positive, kind and caring behavior as well as their active participation in the Homework Hour and Healthy Lifestyles programming at the Boys & Girls Club.  These lucky members even had their names and accomplishments announced over the PA system at the games!  A special thank you to Rock 'n Roll To Go, the Eau Claire Police Department, and UWEC Athletics for helping put this great event together.

Sponsor Spotlight:  WIPFLI

This month we would like to recognize the generous support that Wipfli has shown to the Boys & Girls Club. As a corporate sponsor, Wipfli has supported the Boys & Girls Club since 2007, not only by sponsoring events but also by working closely with Club staff to provide technology support and audit services to the organization.  Wipfli was also instrumental in helping the Boys & Girls Club install its new Club Tech Technology Center in 2012, and helped to install and rewire an entirely new server and network for the Club.

Wipfli staff members have also taken an active role to support the Boys & Girls Club by volunteering their time during the Wipfli Day of Caring in 2013. Wipfli staff members spent a day measuring, cutting, and hammering to help build walls and partitions in the Club's Youth Center.  These walls have helped to create separate program space to allow for more productive programming for youth.  We would like to thank everyone at Wipfli for their continued support!  To find out more about Wipfli, please visit their website at www.wipfli.com.

Scheels Installs New Basketball Hoops in Club Teen Center
Boys & Girls Club members enjoyed an exciting surprise at the end of January.  The Eau Claire Teen Center now has two brand new basketball hoops, thanks to the local Scheels sporting goods store.  The Boys & Girls Club renovated the Teen Center space in 2011, removing the old night club bar and staging to create a large, open recreation space for health and wellness programming.  Since the renovation, Scheels has worked closely with the Club and local architects to help install new basketball hoops into the space for members to use and enjoy.

Not only did Scheels provide the hoops and installation, but they also donated brand new sports equipment to the Club as part of the project - including new basketballs, volleyballs, and footballs, to be used for sports and recreation programmi  ng.  Club members are overjoyed with the new equipment and basketball hoops, and the space has been brought to life thanks to Scheels!
