GETTING STARTED
Saturday October 14, 2017
10am - 2:30pm
Registration $10
Taught by Sue Becker

We will introduce you to the world of milling your own grains and making all your own breads.  We will start from "scratch" and discuss all the necessary baking ingredients and types of wheat and equipment needed to make this lifestyle change not only possible but doable!

We will demonstrate milling flour, mixing quick breads, kneading bread dough, either by hand or machine, shaping the dough, making quick cereals, and even tortillas.

And best of all - you get to taste everything we make!!  We will demonstrate the Wonder Mill, NutriMill, Bosch Kitchen Machine, the Ankarsrum Original mixer, Zojirushi Bread Machine, Tribest Personal Blender, and the ChefPro Tortilla press.

Lots of information presenting the endless possibilities of baking with whole grains.

NOTE: If you already own a copy of our "Recipe Collection" (the RED cookbook), it would be a good idea to bring it to take notes and mark-up some recipes with helpful information you will hear in the class. If you don't have a copy (or forget to bring one), we do have plenty for sale in the store!

DEHYDRATION
Thursday October 19, 2017
10am - 2:00pm
Registration $10
Taught by Sue Becker

When it comes to fruits and veggies, we all know they are good for us, but we often encounter two problems - they go bad before we can eat them or we can't get our families to eat them at all!

Dehydration not only increases the shelf life of fruits and vegetables by months, sometimes even years, but also retains as much as 97% of the nutritional value of the foods. Dehydration opens up vast possibilities for preserving and enjoying healthy foods. From healthy fruit snacks to powdered veggies you can sneak into meals, to soup mixes and beef jerky, Sue will show you how fun and easy it is to dehydrate foods as well as how to use the foods you have dehydrated.

Join Sue for a look at using a dehydrator and the foods you can make.

Jams and Jellies
Friday, October 27, 2017
10:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Registration $10
Taught by Sue Becker

Making jams and jellies does not have to be limited to summer time and bumper crops of produce.  Sue will show you the basics of making jams and jellies in small batches with less sugar, honey or even no sugar, using Pomona Pectin.  Sampling will begin with jelly on a warm biscuit with butter.

But, jelly isn't just for spreading on bread!  You will be sampling Sangria Jelly with crackers and garlic cheese, and Meatballs with Wine Jelly Chili Sauce.  Great for holiday appetizers or snacks or gift giving!
