CAIR-Oregon Reports Threat Posted on Far-Right Patriot Prayer Facebook Page

donatebutton(PORTLAND, OREGON, 11/4/18) - The Oregon chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Oregon) today said it has informed law enforcement authorities about an apparent threat to "burn" CAIR offices posted on the Facebook page of the far-right Patriot Prayer group.

A comment posted on that page stated: "Can't we just go burn down all the offices CAIR has?" CAIR-Oregon has notified the Oregon State Police and the Portland Police Bureau about the threat.

"Given all the recent hate attacks and threats targeting minority communities nationwide, it is incumbent on local, state and federal law enforcement authorities to investigate this apparent call to violence against a civil rights organization," said CAIR-Oregon Spokesperson Zakir Khan.

On Friday, CAIR-Oregon applauded the fundraising platform GivingFuel for permanently removing the fundraising page of Patriot Prayer from its website for committing multiple violations of its terms of usage, including advocating and celebrating violence. CAIR-Oregon had asked GivingFuel to take that action.

Lat week, CAIR asked Muslim communities to implement increased security measures in the wake of recent hate incidents nationwide.
