CAIR Welcomes Withdrawal of U.N. Ambassador Nominee Heather Nauert

donatebutton(WASHINGTON, D.C., 2/17/19) - The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation's largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed Heather Nauert's decision to withdraw from consideration as U.N. ambassador.

CAIR had called on the Trump administration to drop Nauert's nomination because of her inexperience in diplomacy, past associations with Islamophobia and after new reports surfaced showing that the former host of "Fox and Friends" helped promote the conspiracy theories of notorious anti-Muslim activists.

"We welcome Heather Nauert's withdrawal from consideration as U.N. ambassador and hope that whoever takes up that post will represent our nation in an unbiased manner based on a wealth of diplomatic experience," said CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad.

CAIR has reported an unprecedented spike in bigotry targeting American Muslims, immigrants and members of other minority groups since the election of Donald Trump as president. The Washington-based civil rights organization has also repeatedly expressed concern about Islamophobic and racist Trump administration policies and appointments.
