Breaking Frontiers in the Sky!

On September 14th Macchu Pisco embarks on our most ambitious promotion ever.  We are sponsoring pilot Chiwami Takagi-Read in the annual Reno Championship Air Races, taking place in Reno Nevada September 14 - 18.

Chiwami Takagi-Read, one of the six women to compete in this event in a sea of 100 pilots, was born in Aichi Prefecture, Japan and is trailblazing in the field and inspiring young women in aeronautics.

She started out flying helicopters in the 1990's, shifting to planes when she moved to the United States.  She became a flight instructor, teaching flight in several kinds of aircraft.  When Chiwami attended her first Reno Air Races in 2009, she was moved to compete.

Her first year competing in the National Championship Air Races was 2015, and she's back stronger than ever this year in the Plastic Piglet, a Glassar 1 sport plane.  She is the first Asian female pilot to compete at NCAR and we can't wait to see Macchu Pisco take to the sky on her plane!

GO Chiwami Takagi-Read!  Break those glass ceilings, the sky is the limit for you. Macchu Pisco couldn't be prouder to sponsor such a brave pioneer.
Macchu Pisco in the News

We were absolutely overjoyed to make an appearance on British TV's Sunday Brunch. Tristan Stevenson, owner of one of our favorite London bars, Worship Street Whistling Shop, created a fantastic La Diablada Pisco cocktail aptly named "One of Your Five a Day"  just for the show.  The drink features La Diablada, lemon juice, cider vinegar, lavender honey and soda. We are over the moon to see how much the hosts enjoyed the cocktail!

September Fundraising

Macchu Pisco supports many good causes.  We are sponsoring several events this month, three of which benefit worthy charities.

We begin on Tuesday, Sept. 19th with a fundraiser for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society of the National Capital Area.   The Ambassador's Ball takes place at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in downtown Washington DC.  The ball honors the Washington Diplomatic Corps and Members of Congress for their many contributions to charitable and humanitarian efforts.  This black-tie event begins at 6:00 pm.

A Second Helping Of Life is a celebration of women chefs in New York.  The event celebrates the 40th anniversary of SHARE, which helps women dealing with breast and ovarian cancer.  Tasman Fadal of PIX11 News will serve as host, and Angie Mar of the Beatrice Inn will be the executive chef.  The event takes place Monday, Sept. 19th at Pier Sixty at the Chelsea Piers.

On Saturday,  Sept. 24th Macchu Pisco will lend a paw to the Lucky Dog Animal Rescue group.   Let's Get Lucky! is a casino night fundraiser for this great organization which seeks to find homes for rescued animals.   The fun happens at Hamilton Live!, the downstairs night club at the Hamilton restaurant, 14th and F St. downtown, starting at 7:00 pm.  Help find the dogs a good home.  How can you resist this face?

Our final event isn't a fundraiser, but it's a terrific industry showcase.

On Wednesday, Sept. 21st we will once again sponsor the  Chicago Independent Spirits Expo at the  Chicago Hilton Hotel.  We have attended many of these Indie Spirits Expos in various cities and we're thrilled to continue to support these trade shows which promote independent producers.

Suffragette's Punch

Speaking of breaking frontiers, this month's cocktail and the restaurant where it was invented are named for a pioneering woman from the 19th century.

The restaurant is the newly-opened  Lucy's American Tavern, located in Dorchester MA.  The La Diablada cocktail is Lucy's Punch, one of their best sellers.  Both are named for Lucy Stone (1818 -- 1893), a Dorchester resident prominent in the suffragette and abolitionist movements and the first woman from Massachusetts to earn a college degree.  Go, Lucy!
