Fund a Need - Ballard Performing Arts

BPA supporters have reached the BHS Foundation match amount of $3,000 for the BHS PTSA BASH Fund a Need Item - Ballard Performing Arts!  Additional donations are still being accepted to add to this fabulous start.  All donations are tax deductible and any amount is encouraged. Solo and Ensemble 2017
Good Luck BPA Musicians and Singers!

We wish the BPA musicians and singers listed below all the best as they compete at the annual Washington State Solo and Ensemble competition at Central Washington University tomorrow and 
Saturday.

Singers (except Men's Quartet) driving to CWU on Friday AM, meet in the back parking lot at 8:00 AM, leave at 8:15 AM.  Bring full concert attire. Expected return about 7:00 PM.

Jazz Bands at the Royal Room - Sunday, April 30th

From 5pm to 7pm you will find both Ballard Jazz Bands setting the tone in the Royal Room at 5000 Rainier Ave. South. Come hang with the cool cats. $10 food/drink minimum. Dinner is also available. No cover, donations go to the Jazz program. All ages are welcome.

Jazz 2 Call time 4:00 PM(for sound check)
Jazz 1 Call time 4:45 PM
Normal Concert Attire is the required dress.  Make sure to take all instruments and music home this weekend so you have everything you need for Sunday!

Duck Island Jazz Festival - Monday, May 1st
Vocal Jazz will be participating in the Duck Island Jazz Festival at Blanchet High School. This informal jazz festival will feature jazz choirs from Blanchet, Ballard, and Jackson High School (Everett). Students will have the opportunity to perform for each other, work with clinicians Kelly and Amanda Kunz, and put on a concert with Last Call, a Seattle based semi-professional jazz choir. Parents are encouraged to join us for the informal concert at 5:30 PM. Schedule is as follows:
 
3:00 - 5:00 pm Kelly and Amanda work with choirs (about 40 min each)  
5:00 - 5:30 pm Dinner Break (pizza)
5:30 - 6:30 pm HS Choirs perform a few songs each
6:30 - 7:15 pm Last Call performs 

Jazz Alley - Tuesday, May 30th

Jazz Band 1 and 2 and Vocal Jazz will perform at Jazz Alley on Tuesday, May 30th.  Doors Open at 6pm. Show starts at 7pm.  Get your tickets and reserve your table before they sell out!    Tickets are available now. Please note musicians and singers do not need to purchase admission tickets.

Choir News 
Choir Tour to Portland - May 5th - 7th

During the Choir weekend tour to Portland, Advanced Chorale and Concert Choir will sing at
The Old Church Concert Hall on Saturday May 6th at 3:30 PM. The Old Church Concert Hall is a nonprofit, non-religious, performance and events venue in downtown Portland's West End cultural district. Our mission as a nonprofit is to preserve and celebrate The Old Church as a historic and vital architectural structure, and to create, cultivate and share programs that reflect and enhance artistic and cultural life in our community. Please invite your Portland Friends and Family and let's fill the church!

Students will board buses at 12:30 PM on Friday, May 5th and return at about 5:00 PM on Sunday, May 7th.  See the full and detailed  Portland Tour Itinerary Here .  

The Cast of Les Misérables at the PTSA Bash
Saturday, April 29th at North Seattle College

The cast of Les Misérables will be performing "One Day More" at this year's PTSA BASH on Saturday, April 29 th   at North Seattle College. Students should wear their Les Miz t-shirts, black pants and black shoes.   Rehearsal is at 4:00 PM.  Call time is 8:15 PM for the  performance. 

Treble Choir News
UW Festival of Choral Excellence - Thursday, May 11th  7:00 AM - 2:30 PM
Permission slips have been sent home. Students will be taking Metro to and from UW.

Women's University Club - Friday, May 19th - Call time is 6:00 PM
Treble Choir will perform at the Women's University Club on Friday, May 19th.  Call time is 6:00 PM for the 6:45 PM performance.  The performance should be over about 7:00 PM.  Parents are welcome to watch the performance.

Marching Band in the Syttende Mai Parade 2016
Syttende Mai Parade - May 17th
Chaperones and Water Needed!

Make sure May 17th is on your calendars to watch Ballard's award-winning Marching Band in our hometown parade!  We will need at least 10 chaperones at about 4:00 PM to walk the parade route with the Band and six 24 bottle cases of water. Contact  Ingrid Riley  to volunteer or donate water for this event.

In Search of the Next BPA Treasurer! 
Have you got the skills to pay the bills?

We want to fill this position ASAP so that our current Treasurer, Mike Hansen, can assist with transition! This position serves on the finance committee, presents the budget to the membership; keeps accurate records at all times; receives, issues receipts, and deposits promptly in an authorized account all monies and disburse same according to the approved yearly budget. Presents a written financial report every month and such other times as required by the president; provides all financial records if requested by the president or board of directors members; closes the books on June 30 and submit the books and records for financial review to a financial review committee, handles all moneys and deposits, maintains ledger. Job can be done at home with the exception of monthly meetings. Time commitment: 8 hours/week during the school year and 4 hours/week in summer.  Questions?  Contact current treasurer Mike Hansen

Coffee Orders due Wednesday, May 3rd
We are in Week 2 of our coffee sale.

Use this weekend well! Caffé Appassionato offers four delicious blends to choose from: Organic Espresso, Organic Decaf, Arietta (lightest roast) and Tempest (darkest roast). Donations from each $12 bag sold go to support performing arts students and programs.  Each student is asked to sell, collect payment, and turn in completed forms to the black locked mailbox in the music room. Completed orders are due Wednesday, May 3, and coffee orders will be distributed during each of the spring concerts. No late orders will be accepted due to ordering and delivery deadlines.   Questions?
