American Alzheimer's Association

Co-sponsor "Walk to End Alzheimer's" in West Plains

On September 30th, the American Alzheimer's Association of the United States will sponsor "A Walk to End Alzheimer's" as part of the largest fundraiser in the world to address the Alzheimer's epidemic.  Six hundred such walks will take place  across the United States alone.  Everyone
has a dog in this fight, whether directly as victims of the disease, indirectly as caregivers, or at a societal level.  The monumental burden on our health care system will affect us all.

One in 17 Americans fifty-five or older has the disease; they involved 15 million as care givers -- all unpaid.  The number of victims is expected to increase from 5 million today to 15 million by 2050, largely because 75 million baby boomers are entering the age range in which the incidence of Alzheimer's increases over time.

The only way to avoid this health problem is to control the epidemic.  That's going to require funding.  You can be a sponsor of the up-coming walk in West Plains.  For information on how, go to Alzheimer's Walk Sponsor or call Nate Reed, 417-396-1013.
