STUDIO ANNOUNCEMENTS

Taste Mila at 12 Noon on April 28th and May 19th at Breathe with Kent Bond

Mila is a whole Raw Food, loaded with omega-3s, fiber, antioxidants, protein and phytonutrients and is consumed for heart, bone, gastrointestinal, breast, weight loss and anti-aging support.

Mila is a proprietary blend of Salvia hispanica L. seeds that are mechanically opened to optimize bio-availability. Your body feels and uses these nutrients immediately to hydrate and enhance your practice.

Mila is meticulously cultivated , harvested, cleaned, transported and packaged under strict quality control and watchful eye of Lifemax at every stage. Strict government inspection and independent laboratory analysis ensure that 100% of what is on the Mila package is also in the Mila package - nothing added, nothing taken away - just 100% of the most nutrient-dense quality assured Salvia hispanica L seeds that nature can grow and Lifemax can perfect.

Mila is a superfood high in Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) and Mucilage. EFAs cannot be manufactured in the body, we must consume them through foods. Their anti-inflammatory benefits counter the damaging array of unhealthy fats consumed in many modern diets and the medicinal gel (mucilage) heals the digestive tract.

MAY WORKSHOPS

Kirtan - Song of the Soul: May 5th
1:30pm - 4:30pm with Prajna Vieira and guests

Bhakti is the yoga of devotion, the path of falling in love with the Divine. Art, dance, storytelling, poetry, and ritual are all venerated practices within the tradition, but singing is considered one of the noblest means of attaining the state of prema bhakti, or supreme love. Kirtans are like love songs to the Divine—they express the most profound in the simplest terms. They can be subtle and full of sweet longing, or rocking and danceable—a wild celebration of the goodness of life.

In this workshop we'll learn a bit of the history and cultural significance of the Bhakti Renaissance in India, and hear some of the beautiful poetry and scripture of the Bhakti saints. But mostly we will sing lots of kirtan, tell a few stories about the deities we're singing to, and even learn a simple dance traditionally performed during temple kirtans. And then we'll sing more kirtan....

Yogawoman Film Screening - May 6th
7:00pm - 9:00pm

A quiet revolution brews in yoga studios, hospitals, and living rooms around the globe: In record numbers, women are discovering their own strength, vitality, peace, and power through yoga. Reclaiming this ancient spiritual path from its traditionally male form, the result is a radical transformation of modern yoga, as we know it.

Led by a new generation of dynamic female teachers, this “new” yoga replaces the male-centered, rigid style with a distinctly feminine practice that honors intuition, family, flow, connection, community, activism, and the cyclical nature of women’s lives. YOGAWOMAN is a groundbreaking film that captures this fascinating time of awakening female power.

Blissful Self-Care Yoga for Mother's Day
May 12th
1:30pm - 4:30pm
with with Misako Matsuoka

When we, as Mothers, forget to self care, our energies become depleted, our own body systems become weakened, and our ability to provide care is impaired. Often we start to lose our loving connection to others and to ourselves. We can easily get stuck in a downward spiral. It is vital to take the time to replenish ourselves energetically and physically to rebalance our lives. In this yoga workshop the intention will be to celebrate and replenish yourself with blissful yoga in the community of other radiant supportive women. Misako Matsuoka will guide you in restorative yoga, gentle yang yoga, pranayama, and guided meditation to tend to the caregiver in you. This workshop will be appropriate for beginners and experienced yoginis alike.

Yoga and Tre: May 19th
1:30pm - 4:00pm with Maria Alfaro

An hour of gentle and all levels of yoga will precede the revolutionary Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE). TRE was developed by David Berceli, a bioenergetic therapist, who has used it successfully all over the world for almost two decades, working with those who suffered traumatic circumstances and has helped them alleviate the many symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder.

TRE is a gentle, simple and profound technique that facilitates the lengthening and relaxation of the Psoas muscle; a thick, deep muscle that is in our lower belly. In its role of protector of our organs, it contracts and tightens, becoming shorter, in response to life small and big traumatic experiences. A tight Psoas can cause many problems, including sciatica and lower back pain, just to mention a few. The TRE exercises work the legs, tiring them and creating a trembling response which begins in the legs and often spreads throughout the body. This gentle shaking is actually the nervous system way of discharging long held tension or unconscious muscle contraction in order to restore the body to wholeness.

Living Your Yoga: May 20th
2:00pm - 5:00pm with Jennifer Prugh

We will address how our yoga practice off the mat effects every area of our life, from informing our lifestyle choices so that we are living more harmoniously with ourselves, to supporting our relationships with everyone around us. We will consider daily practices that promote health and well being, how our home environment can better support us, our work as a means of right livelihood, and the value of service as a means of enriching our own lives as much as those we are serving. This workshop is for students of all levels as well as seasoned practitioners, teachers, and anyone looking to more deeply bring their yoga practice to every aspect of their life.

TEACHER TRAINING

Joy of Yoga 100 Hour Advanced Studies &
Teacher Training: Dynamics

Friday, July 13th 6pm - 9pm;
Saturday, July 14th - Sunday, July 22nd, 8am - 6pm

The Yoga Alliance certified Joy of Yoga Teacher Training has two phases, a dynamic 100 hour training that takes place each summer and a therapeutics 100 hour training each winter. The summer training addresses dynamic asana, including flow-based or vinyasa practice. The therapeutics training addresses passive styles of practice including restorative, yin and gentle yoga. In both trainings we will discuss principles of alignment, sequencing, “read bodies” and how to do safe and effective assists.

By the end of the week we will have a thorough knowledge of the human body by studying both western anatomy and subtle anatomy from which the science of yoga is based. We will be finding or refining our own unique voice and radically enhancing the passion for our practice in the company of others who share in the same passion, and in the words of Joseph Campbell, 'following our bliss.'

Scented teas are rejuvenating in the Spring, green teas are cooling in Summer, oolongs are earthy and rich, great for the increasing colder days in Fall, and black teas are warming and reviving in winter.

The special tea of this month is Vanilla Rose. This is a white tea that actually has small rosebuds in the blend
