What's Happening at Brevard Family Partnership
Welcome from the CEO

Dear Friends,

One thing we can all be assured of is change. Change challenges us and it paves the way for a better future. Some of us adapt well to change while others inherently struggle with it. Socrates said, "The secret of change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old but on building the new." That is what we have committed ourselves to here in Brevard, building a better future for the vulnerable children and families we serve.

"Protecting children, strengthening families, changing lives" is our motto and mission. As we strive to make a positive impact on the lives of those we serve, it is important to celebrate the outcome of our efforts; the child who finds a forever family, the parent caught in the snare of addiction who recovers, or the families who work so hard to be reunited with their children.

Run for Love 5K is back!

The second annual Run for Love 5K will once again be
a part of the 8th annual Walk for Love, coming to the Church at Viera on November 16! The theme of the Run for Love is "have a heart for adoption" and all participants are encouraged to wear a heart themed t-shirt or costume. There will be prizes for costume with the most HEART!

The Walk for Love will immediately follow the run, and everyone is invited to attend (including your four-legged friends!). There is no cost to attend the walk.

You don't want to miss out on these fun, family-friendly events that celebrate forever families during National Adoption Month.

News From the Field - DCM Spotlight

Let me introduce to you Children's Home Society Dependency Care Manager, Paula Futie.  Paula is a member of Unit 281, where Bonnie Gibbons is her supervisor.  Paula has a sincere heart and loves family.  Paula and her husband Robert moved to Florida two years ago from Maine as they wanted to be close to their daughter and grandson.  Within six months of her moving, she applied and was hired at CHS and began her career as a case manager.

Paula states as a child she moved around a lot!  Her parents met on a cruise ship named "Santa Paula".  Most people would not believe, but that's where her parents got her name from.  She said, "they must have really had a great time on this ship".  Paula is married to her best friend, Robert also known as GBR-Grandpa Big Rob!  She enjoys spending time with her family especially the little man that has her heart, Travis.  She's better known to Travis as "LaLa".

Paula graduated from the University of Southern Maine with a Bachelor's degree in Social Work.  She says the best part of her job is interviewing  and interacting with the kids.  Paula says, "The highlight of my job is when I am able to reunify children with their parents, especially when the parents have completed their case plan and have made positive changes in their lives.

Keep up the great work Paula!

Child Protection Transformation

Child Protection Transformation is a multi-year project, in partnership with the Florida Department of Children and Families, designed to address identified concerns with Florida's child protection system. The vision is to transform Florida's child welfare system of care to work more effectively with children and families towards achieving child safety.
The goal of the project is to:

♦ Improve and permanently changed business practices and consistent safety decision making;
♦ Reduce re-investigations and re-abuse;
♦ Make systems integration and technology improvements for efficiency;
♦ Maintain a professionalized and stabilized workforce; and
♦ Achieve higher quality casework and better outcomes for children and families.
