Loving Food!

This weekend, Tim and I attended his sister's graduation party in Madison. While there, I had the chance to visit Vom Fass Gourmets and Epicures. This place was great fun for the foodie in me; I sampled their gourmet oils, vinegars, spirits and wines.   I couldn't help but think of how creative one could get using the fun vinegars and oils with our LotFotL fresh veggies, especially right now during the salad season.  It takes a simple dish and makes the flavors really come alive in your mouth. During this visit, I limited myself to the pumpkin seed oil and the pomegranate vinegar, which make a fantastic combination for dressing. And I was really excited to hear that the store was planning to come to the Milwaukee area within the next year!

Take a look at some of their super fun salad recipes.  Here is one for an arugula salad.

The Sorrel Situation

Sorrel, not to be confused with spinach, has a sharp, lemony taste that pairs nicely with eggs, fish, and potatoes. This green can be cooked with other similar greens like spinach or kale or used in stir fry or salad (but will wilt down even more than spinach when cooked). To store, wash the leaves, pat them dry, roll them up in paper towel and place in a zip-top bag. For longer term storage, cook in butter until wilted and freeze in ice cube trays. The frozen cubes should be placed in a zip-top bag until ready to use in a soup or stew for those cold, winter nights.
Member Accounts:

When members sign up with us, an account is created that allows them to access lots of information about what they signed up for.  Here are some examples of information provided on your account page:

Memberships:  Gives you the address and times of your pick up location as well as other pick up details like how to contact your site host.

Payments:  Allows you to make an online payment or see what your balance due on your order is.

Orders: Shows a history of what you have ordered and allows you to place orders in our store (open from Thursday - Tuesday).  Remember that all orders will be delivered on the Thursday after you order them.

Holds:  This allows you to put your share on hold for a week that you are not able to pick it up.  You can also view when you have scheduled your box on hold and when you have asked for double delivery to replace the previously held share.
