Show Your Love for Bright
Parents, show your love for Bright with a gift to the Bright Fund. No matter the size of your gift, we want 100% parent participation from parents by this Friday. Students will enjoy a splash-filled time on August 31 with waterslides, icy treats and a beach party.
Car Line and Parking Reminders
Today was the first morning car line with all 339 students, and the teachers letting students out of the car would like parents to remember:

  • To make sure your child is unbuckled, especially from the five-point harnesses, and has his or her backpack or bag in hand when the teacher opens the car door.

  • To please have your child finished with any food or drink before the door opens.

  • JPK parents are required to park and walk in their children. All parking in front of the ECC building is reserved for them.

There is a new JPK classroom next to the library, so families going to Mrs. Rachel's class need to enter the building through the back library doors beside the Mondo. Do not walk to back door of the classroom; you should enter the classroom from the hallway.

Reserved Parking

Two spots in front of the main building entrance at the columns and one spot in front of the ECC building are reserved for families who paid for them through the auction. These spots are reserved for them at all times. Please do not park in these spots even if you are just running in and out of the building.

Car Line Signs

If you lost your car sign with your child's last name on it or need an extra, please email Brooke Moore at [email protected] by this Friday, August 24. The signs are $3, payable by cash or check and turned into the office. Please note on your payment that it is for a sign. This will be the only order for signs place this fall. The next order will be in January.
Do You Know Our Policies?
It's a good idea to be familiar with our school policies, which include our code of conduct, emergency procedures, and a glossary of terms.

Please remember our school is a nut-free zone. Snacks, party food, birthday treats or other food items brought to school may NOT contain any nuts or peanut butter. We have several students with life-threatening nut allergies.
And don't forget our uniform guidelines! Please make sure your child's attire follows the rules.
  • Girls' hair accessories should only be uniform colors (white, navy, evergreen, light blue or light yellow) or our Bright plaid.
  • Belts should be brown, black, navy or the kind sold in the bookstore.
  • If your child is cold indoors, he or she may only wear approved colors of sweaters and sweatshirts or those sold in the bookstore.
Bonanza Shirts
Families who purchased Bonanza shirts on Registration Day will receive them before Friday. They will be sent home in your child's backpack or bag.

Bonanza shirts will be available for purchase in the bookstore tomorrow and Thursday and during car line on Thursday morning, Thursday afternoon and Friday morning. If you are purchasing in the car line, please have your payment of $15 cash or check payable to The Bright School ready. The shirt sizes are youth extra small, small, medium, and large, and adult small, medium, large, extra large, xx-large and xxx-large.

Students may wear Bonanza shirts with uniform bottoms this Friday and August 31, September 7 and September 14.

Bonanza is Friday, September 14, which is a half day, dismissing at 11:30 a.m. There will be no Bright Afternoons.

The event is 4-7 p.m. Bonanza is a carnival-like event with rides, games and food. More details about purchasing tickets will be coming soon.
Special Music Opportunities
Choir

The Bright School choir is open to students in grades 3-5. Choir offers students the ability to further their musical education through reading music, ear training, and ensemble performance. We will explore a wide variety of music genres, styles, and origins to broaden their appreciation for World Music. No experience is necessary to join this class. Choir is a year-round ensemble that will meet weekly for 30 minutes before school. Please contact  Stephanie Bowling  by August 24 to reserve your student's spot, after which you will be notified of the rehearsal day. Mrs. Bowling will contact each parent when the group is finalized. Rehearsals will begin after Labor Day.

Handbells

Handbell ensembles are open to students in grades 4-5. These ensembles offer students the ability to further their musical education through reading music, ear training, and performance. No experience is necessary to join. These are year-round ensembles that will meet weekly for 35 minutes before school. There are a limited number of spaces available to students, and spaces will be available on a first come, first serve basis. Please email  Stephanie Bowling  by August 24 to reserve your student's spot, after which you will be assigned a class date. Rehearsals will begin after Labor Day. Please be aware the rehearsal days are subject to change based on interest and participation requirements.
PE Guidelines
There are a few reminders for your child's time at P.E., which is a daily class for grades K-5 and twice a six-day rotation for PK.
  • Girls must wear shorts underneath dresses, skirts, and jumpers.
  • If your child has exercise-induced asthma, please send an inhaler in a plastic bag marked with his or her name on it to be kept in the gym.
  • If your child cannot participate in PE due to illness or injury, please send a note signed by a parent or doctor.
  • Boys and girls must wear tennis shoes every day, including free dress days.

New Parent Coffee
The Parents' Association is hosting a New Parent Coffee on Wednesday, August 22, at 8 a.m. or as soon as you drop off your child. Please come to the Dining Hall and meet other new parents and PA volunteers.
Cub Scouts Interest Meeting
There will be a parent informational meeting on how your son can become a Bright School Cub Scout on Thursday, August 23, at 5:30 p.m. in the Bright School dining hall. This is for boys in grades K-5. We will be setting up dens, processing registration fees and looking for volunteers to be leaders of our youngest dens. If your son was a Cub Scout last year, you do not need to attend this meeting. For more information please contact Renee' Kropff at  423-305-6466 or  [email protected] .
Save the Date: Parents' Night
Parents' Night is Thursday, August 30. This is an event for parents only. Children may stay late in Bright Afternoons, you may drop them off in Bright Afternoons when you arrive or arrange other childcare at home.

The schedule is:
Grades JPK-1: 5:30-6:15 p.m.
Grades 2-5: 6:30-7:15 p.m.

(Fourth grade meets in the dining hall, and fifth grade meets in the library. Everyone else reports to your child's classroom.)

Shuttles will run from Stuart Heights Baptist Church from 5-8 p.m. Please do not park along Minnekahda Road near the school entrance. When this narrow road is blocked, residents will call police to have vehicles towed.

If your child is staying in Bright Afternoons from dismissal through the end of your Parents' Night time with no break, please fill out this form and turn it into the office by Tuesday, August 28, to reserve your child's spot. You do not have to turn in a form if you drop off your child when you arrive. Drop off and check out is at the Early Childhood Center main desk.
After School Classes
Registration is now open for after school classes. Classes begin after Labor Day. Space is limited in some classes. Payment for the instructor (not to The Bright School) must be turned in with the registration form.

Visit the Bright Afternoons webpage for a full list and to download the registration forms.
Library Volunteers and Birthday Books
The library is seeking volunteers to help each week and during the Book Fair, which will be in December. For more information, see the Library Volunteer form on the Registration Day webpage.

Another way to support the library is to donate books through the Birthday Book Club. With a $20 donation, books are given to the library in honor of your child. He or she will pick out the book and will be the first to check it out. Please send $20 and the Birthday Book Club form to the library or office by October 1.

For questions about volunteering or the birthday book club, please contact librarian Elizabeth Oakes at [email protected].
