Dear friends,

Wanted to give you an update on the cats we took in recently from the Harbor City warehouse situation.  I've included a lot of new photos in this email and, consequently, deleted all the ones that went out recently.  But I did leave the text of their prior plea below for reference.

We are still requesting donations.  As you read through all the vet information, you will understand why.  So, if you are able to donate, please click here.

Also, my apologies for sloppy placement of the photos.  I'm doing this on my lunch break and need to get it done in a short time before I go back to work.

First of all, all our new friends had some serious flea infestation, ear mites, and worms.  All have been treated, including having their ears cleaned out at the vet.

Brannan

Mr. Black, now known as Brannan, or "Bran" for short (Gaelic for Little Raven), is off quarantine and having a blast in his foster home.  He's pretty much ready for adoption though it will take a few weeks for the damage to his skin and ears to be covered with thick glossy fur again.  Bran is super-friendly, loves people, is great with other cats.  He's a very happy boy.  He would probably be good with a cat friendly dog or with children too.  He is very very social.

Finnian

Mr. White, now known an Finnian, of "Finn" (Gaelic for fair or light), is still on quarantine.  He has some serious diarrhea so he needs to be in his own space and not share a litter box with other cats just yet.  A  few more days.  He'll be out soon. Again, a very nice boy, super friendly.  Someone will be very lucky to adopt him.

Annie and Andy

The orange kids, a boy and a girl, are still on quarantine.  (Annie and Andy?   Their foster dad hasn't weighed in on my naming suggestion yet.)  They have really nasty upper respiratory infections so we don't want them sneezing on any other cats in the foster home.  We'll see how they are doing this weekend.  Also, Annie has a disturbing puncture wound on her side.  We've had it x-rayed, and cleaned and stitched up.  No foreign object in there.  No idea what happened to her.  Give her a few weeks and she'll be healthy enough to be spayed and placed for adoption.  Thankfully her boyfriend is already neutered!

So that's where the current group stand at this point.

We can make room for a couple more cats from this situation.  Thirty or so are in short term foster care and need to move on to rescue and adoption opportunities.  But these cats are costing hundreds of dollars each so we really could use some financial sponsorship.  If you can donate, it would be much appreciated and put to good use.  Also, we could use some FOSTER HOMES.  Should anyone be interested, please let me know.

Prior Plea

I actually hate to use the word "hoarder."  Too often people think it's about the number of animals when in fact it has everything to do with living conditions.  Well, on Friday, BrightHaven joined with a lot of other rescues from southern and northern California to respond to a situation than unfortunately appears to be a really bad hoarding situation.

I am not running graphic photos here.  The photos I've posted are the cats that BrightHaven has taken so far.  The photos were taken in the warehouse in Harbor City where they lived with more than 100 cats and 2 dogs.  The person who rented the warehouse was being evicted, the sheriff was due Friday but thankfully did not show up.  Rescues have been working all weekend to get those animals to safety.

All the animals are in poor condition -- underweight, fleas, worms, ear mites, ear infections, upper respiratory infections.  One of the orange ones that we took has a puncture wound on the side too.  We have two at the vet right now and two more with vet appointments tomorrow.

All animals have been removed from the warehouse.  However, approximately 30 cats are in temporary space and still need long term foster or permanent adoptive homes.  BrightHaven is willing to take more in, provided there is space.
