Bring the Sun Into Your Home with Skylights

Skylights completely transform the room they're in!
|
Skylights instantly bring sunlight, warmth and openness into any room. They add value and elegance to your home while providing a more inviting living space.
Skylights are installed in the roof. While it might be possible to install a skylight elsewhere, this would be a non-conventional installation and not true to the purpose of a skylight. All skylights are roof skylights.
A skylight is a "window" that fits on your roof. It can be either flat or domed, fixed or vented. Some vented skylights operate by an electric motor, while others open and close manually via an extended tool to reach the windows installed in the ceiling.
A fixed skylight borrows window terminology again. "Fixed" means that it cannot be opened. Think of your typical office building window. That is a fixed window.
A vented skylight opens and closes. A couple of the pros and cons of fixed vs. vented skylight: - Vented skylights can accidentally be left open, allowing rain to enter the house. However, automatically closing vented skylights are available which close at the first drop of rain.
- Vented skylights allow excess moisture in kitchens and bathrooms to escape, which is a good thing. Also, you can vent out heat build-up. Fixed skylights do not have this option.
