Policy Snapshot January 2018

Hello and Happy New Year from BAB Policy!

Whether it be the ongoing Brexit negotiations, exciting developments around the UK-US trade and investment talks, new paths in US trade policy or domestic issues, there is no doubt that 2018 promises to be a crucial year for transatlantic businesses. We look forward to working with all our stakeholders from the transatlantic community in the year to come to deliver input, insight and influence.

In January, the EU Commission approved its guidelines for Phase 2 of Brexit negotiations. Prime Minister Theresa May and President Donald Trump had their first one to one meeting of the year in Davos. And the US President delivered his State of the Union to a joint session of Congress, focusing on the recently passed tax reform, future economic reforms and trade policy.

Many of these issues were integrated into our active January programming at BAB and the wider network. In London, leading company representatives celebrated the strength and stability of the transatlantic economic relationship, together with the United States Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Robert Wood Johnson IV, and enjoyed one of the first events on US tax reform - check out further events on the topic to follow in New York and Philadelphia.

As we enter February, watch out for two relevant publications to be launched: 'Across the Pond - British Trade & Investment Success Stories in the US' and the BritishAmerican Busines Policy Agenda 2018 'Strength and Opportunity in a time of change', our flagship policy publication that sets policy priorities of the transatlantic business community in the year ahead.
