BritishAmerican Business - Policy Snapshot

The past month has encapsulated the challenges and opportunities of the present climate in transatlantic trade and investment.

Brexit continues to twist and turn, maintaining the climate of uncertainty businesses are trying to navigate. There is also the regrettable decision from the US to place tariffs on steel and aluminium imports from the European Union. Our official statement in response to this is here.

Both issues challenge the stability of the transatlantic trade and investment relationship, the most valuable bi-lateral economic relationship in the world, a point reiterated by the President of BAB's umbrella network, BABC, Steve Allen at the Annual British-American Business Council (BABC) Transatlantic Conference.

While the surface water can sometimes appear choppy, underneath the relationship continues to be strong with sustained positive momentum from both sides. To illustrate this point, BABC launched two publications on UK-US trade and investment: Across the Pond - British Trade and Investment Success Stories in the US; and Finding Your Way: The Trade and Investment Guide to the US 2018/19. Both speak to the continued desire of UK firms to do business in the US and the success of those firms who have made the jump across the Atlantic.

With the next UK-US Trade and Investment Working Group taking place next month, alongside a visit from President Trump on Friday 13 July, BAB will continue to speak for the businesses that make up the transatlantic economy, and the millions of jobs they support.
