A New Year's Resolution You Can Keep!

One customer reported recently reading an article on yahoo about dieting and secret ways to drop a few pounds. The customer reported that one of those secrets was to eat grass-fed beef! While I am thrilled grass-fed and pastured meat is getting more and more recognition, I wish it were less of a secret. So in honor of the New Year and new resolutions, let's review the benefits of our beef, pork and eggs. Compared to feedlot meat, pastured meat is more nutritious having less total fat, less saturated fat, less cholesterol, and fewer calories. Pastured meats also have more vitamin E, beta-carotene, vitamin C and omega-3 (referred to as health-promoting fats), as well as more cancer fighting conjugated linoleic acids (eatwild.com). Neat- Right? Let me share an example (also from eatwild.com) that really helped me to understand the significance of grass-fed beef. A 6-ounce steak from a grass-fed and finished steer has about 100 fewer calories than a 6-ounce steak from a grain-fed steer! If you consume the average amount of beef or 66.5 pounds of beef a year, you will consume 17,733 fewer calories a year. This means without any major changes in your eating habits in 2012 you could drop about 6 pounds simply by choosing to eat grass-fed beef! Make eating Broadview Ranch's pastured meats your 2012 New Year's Resolution.
