Confirmation Class Retreat
Please be in prayer for our confirmation class as they attend a Confirmation Retreat at Lake Junaluska from April 13-15. They will be joining with other confirmation classes from all over the Southeast. Class members include Charlotte Croft, Eli Griffin, Ryne Rowland, Jack Smeltzer and Charlie Zunich.  Jim Gass and Pastor Laura will serve as chaperones.
REBUILDING WILL TAKE A LONG TIME
After Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico in 2017 destroying an estimated 70,000 homes and causing major damage to 250,000. United Methodist Volunteers in Mission are now sending teams to Puerto Rico to help. We hope to form a team from Broadway UMC to travel late in 2018 (think November). Please come to an information meeting this Sunday, April 15, 10am in the Fellowship Hall. We will talk about the work, the costs, dates, and resourcing. You can also contact Mary Margaret Eckhardt at [email protected]
Summer Fun at Camp Wesley Woods
From first grade through through high school, CWW offers a great experience for all. There are Day Camp, Half Week and Full Week sessions. A $50 gift certificate is available for every Broadway child who attends. Additional financial assistance is also available. Contact Pastor Laura before you make your reservation in order to receive the $50 or additional support. The deadline for this support is April 30.
Brochures with camp information are available in the church office or click here for more information.

Broadway UMC and Habitat Volunteers Ramp Project
Thank you to everyone who worked on the Habitat Ramp last week! With the help of four Habitat volunteers, Scott and Sandy Dahms, Bill Ribble, Mary Margaret and Bob Eckhardt, and Jean Hubbs tore down an old porch to complete a new one, cleared trash, and built a 30+ foot ramp. The weather cooperated, lunch and cookies were delicious, and everyone had a good time working on this project. If you missed this opportunity to serve, don’t worry. Additional projects are planned for later this year—an excellent way to help out members of our community!!

Our next outing is scheduled for Saturday, April 21. We’ll hike a portion of the E. Lakeshore Trail along Ft. Loudon Lake. The trail is out and back so you can go for as long or as short as you wish. It will be a relatively flat hike. Leave from the church parking lot at 9:30 a.m. Bring a packed lunch and plenty of water. Be sure to dress for the weather. Please make a reservation through the church office or pew pad so that we can let you know about any weather adjustments.
On April 26, the Odyssey travelers will depart the church at 10:00 a.m. to travel to the Sweetwater area. We will visit Sweetwater Farms in Philadelphia, TN for samples and shopping of their fine selection of renowned cheeses. The farm store sells a wide selection of delicious cheeses and we will also visit TheUdderStory – a small display barn showing the process of cow milking to feeding the world. Following that, we will drive a few minutes to enjoy lunch at the famous Dinner Bell restaurant in Sweetwater for their world famous lunch buffet! The Dinner Bell features Southern favorites served in a unique and country way! We should return to the church by 2:00 p.m. The only charge is what you buy, what you eat, and a couple of dollars for the bus gas. To make a reservation you can click here or sign up in the pew pads.
DOWNTOWN HOSPITALITY
NEEDS YOUR HELP!!
BUMC Downtown Hospitality Committee in cooperation with the Downtown Maryville Association will be participating in the "Friday Night Lights" monthly events. We begin on Friday, April 27, from 5:30-8:30. Home Depot will be with us again. We set up on the sidewalk in front of the church. We need 9 volunteers. 5 to help build with Home Depot, 2 for water distribution and 2 for pointing the way to our restrooms and to answer any questions that our visitors might have about our church.
Please contact Lisa Hendrickson or the church office to volunteer.
Vacation Bible School Help Wanted!!
Our June 4-7 Vacation Bible School will be here before we know it! I am excited at all the help I already have lined up. David and Laura will be doing our Bible Stories, Megan will be leading games, Patsy is doing the science activity, and Lisa and Gerri will be doing crafts. Kim Hill is organizing our snack suppers again this year. Even though the “bones” of our VBS are in place we still could use some assistants for our activities, people to help shepherd kids around, and help with meals. We will begin setting up the fellowship hall Saturday June 2 nd beginning at 10:00. Most of the work will be moving tables and chairs but there will be some decoration to do as well. All are welcome to come help if you are interested and have that day free. If you would like to help with the meals/kitchen send an email to [email protected]. If you are interested in helping out in other areas or with Saturday’s set up please send an email to [email protected].

On Sunday, April 29, we’ll be having one combined service at
10:30 a.m. Afterwards, there will be a lunch, which is being coordinated by the United Methodist Women (as a 5th Sunday Lunch instead of their usual 5th Wednesday). There will be time on that day to share more about the Summer Worship Schedule and opportunities to get involved. We’re also going to brainstorm names for each of the services (some way to describe and identify the 8:30, 10:00 and 11:15)
so you can help with that, too.
GRADUATE RECOGNITION SUNDAY
On Sunday, May 6, we will have a time of recognition and sharing from our graduates (high school, college and graduate school). So far our list includes: Jessica McCausland, Kyle Wright, Madeline Wimmer, Connor Brown, Ellie Johnson, Caroline Moss and Jenny Kate McBride. Please contact the church office if you know of additional members.
Calling All Super Heroes
Since 1986, the Pregnancy Resource Center of Blount County, Tennessee has helped women cope with unplanned pregnancies and consider their options in a compassionate and supportive environment. On May 5, 2018, the Pregnancy Resource Center will hold their annual Superhero Life Walk and 5k at Sandy Springs Park. They would love to have members of Broadway join them as they raise funds to impact the lives of women and men that are facing unplanned pregnancies. Register online at Run4PRC.com . Last spring we supported the Pregnancy Resource Center by filling baby bottles with change. This year we can support again by walking and/or running.
