Our next outing is scheduled for this Saturday, April 21. We’ll hike a portion of the E. Lakeshore Trail along Ft. Loudon Lake. The trail is out and back so you can go for as long or as short as you wish. It will be a relatively flat hike. Leave from the church parking lot at 9:30 a.m. Bring a packed lunch and plenty of water. Be sure to dress for the weather. Please make a reservation through the church office.

On April 26, the Odyssey travelers will depart the church at 10:00 a.m. to travel to the Sweetwater area. We will visit Sweetwater Farms in Philadelphia, TN for samples and shopping of their fine selection of renowned cheeses. The farm store sells a wide selection of delicious cheeses and we will also visit TheUdderStory – a small display barn showing the process of cow milking to feeding the world. Following that, we will drive a few minutes to enjoy lunch at the famous Dinner Bell restaurant in Sweetwater for their world famous lunch buffet! The Dinner Bell features Southern favorites served in a unique and country way! We should return to the church by 2:00 p.m. The only charge is what you buy, what you eat, and a couple of dollars for the bus gas. To make a reservation you can click here or sign up in the pew pads.

One Combined Service At 10:30 am
On Sunday, April 29, we’ll be having one combined service at
10:30 a.m. Afterwards, there will be a lunch, which is being coordinated by the United Methodist Women (as a 5th Sunday Lunch instead of their usual 5th Wednesday). There will be time on that day to share more about the Summer Worship Schedule and opportunities to get involved. We’re also going to brainstorm names for each of the services (some way to describe and identify the 8:30, 10:00 and 11:15)
so you can help with that, too.

Puerto Rico Mission Trip Meeting
We will be organizing our mission trip to Puerto Rico on Tuesday, May 1 at 7pm. We will meet in room 407. If you are interested in helping rebuild homes and sanctuaries after the hurricane devastation, please plan to attend. Our goal is to organize a team of 8 volunteers; we will look at possible dates (a week in Nov, Dec, or Jan), figure out expenses and resources for funding, evaluate our skills and make application through United Methodist Volunteers in Mission. Volunteers who have building skills or can speak Spanish would be especially welcome. The Puerto Rico Methodist Church will provide rustic lodging and meals. For more information, please contact Mary Margaret Eckhardt, [email protected].
GRADUATE RECOGNITION SUNDAY
On Sunday, May 6, we will have a time of recognition and sharing from our graduates (high school, college and graduate school). So far our list includes: Jessica McCausland, Kyle Wright, Madeline Wimmer, Connor Brown, Ellie Johnson, Caroline Moss and Jenny Kate McBride. Please contact the church office if you know of additional members.
The United Methodist Men are sponsoring our annual golf tournament
on Saturday May 19, 2018. This will be held at the Green Meadow
Country Club in Alcoa and will have a shotgun start at high noon.
The cost for golfers is $60 which includes the cart fee.
For those who would like to show your support for the golfers
and for the efforts of the UMM, Hole Sponsorship's are available. For only $50, you can have a sign with your name placed at a tee box
expressing your well wishes. We would appreciate your support by
one or both of the ways listed above. Thanks for helping us to give back
to our church and community through Broadway UMM. For more information click here to contact Drexel Tiller

Kids Club Year End Program
May 9 th at 5:30 p.m. will be our Kids Club Year End Program. Our kids will present a short little program followed by a light dinner. There will also be a time of sharing as we learn how we can help our Hispanic neighbors. Please call the church office if you plan to join the dinner.

Vacation Bible School Help Wanted!!
Our June 4-7 Vacation Bible School will be here before we know it! I am excited at all the help I already have lined up. David and Laura will be doing our Bible Stories, Megan will be leading games, Patsy is doing the science activity, and Lisa and Gerri will be doing crafts. Kim Hill is organizing our snack suppers again this year. Even though the “bones” of our VBS are in place we still could use some assistants for our activities, people to help shepherd kids around, and help with meals. We will begin setting up the fellowship hall Saturday June 2 nd beginning at 10:00. Most of the work will be moving tables and chairs but there will be some decoration to do as well. All are welcome to come help if you are interested and have that day free. If you would like to help with the meals/kitchen send an email to [email protected]. If you are interested in helping out in other areas or with Saturday’s set up please send an email to [email protected].
Calling All Super Heroes
Since 1986, the Pregnancy Resource Center of Blount County, Tennessee has helped women cope with unplanned pregnancies and consider their options in a compassionate and supportive environment. On May 5, 2018, the Pregnancy Resource Center will hold their annual Superhero Life Walk and 5k at Sandy Springs Park. They would love to have members of Broadway join them as they raise funds to impact the lives of women and men that are facing unplanned pregnancies. Register online at Run4PRC.com . Last spring we supported the Pregnancy Resource Center by filling baby bottles with change. This year we can support again by walking and/or running.
