Brown Food Pantry & Second Harvest
As a new agent of Second Harvest Food Bank, Brown Food Pantry is undergoing some minor changes. This promises to be a long-term, money-saving relationship that will allow us to better serve our clients. We are, as always, in need of volunteers to help with set-up and with serving our clients. In addition, we have a  NEW OPPORTUNITY  for those looking for ways to get involved with our community. If you volunteer at Second Harvest, you can earn hours that will be credited to our account at 2 nd  Harvest. At his time of year, there are students who need to fulfill volunteer hours for their schools or organizations. This could be just what they need. Second Harvest's hours are flexible, and they welcome any age volunteer (young children must be supervised by an adult). They have several handicapped volunteers as well. It is a huge operation that depends on their volunteers to function. If you are be interested or have questions.
Please contact Ruthie Barton ( [email protected] ).

Our church kitchen has been thoroughly cleaned. By working together we can continue to keep it clean and in order. These are a few guidelines to follow.

● Wash, dry, and put away all dishes and clean sink.
● Clean and wipe counter tops.
● Wipe spills from stove top and oven.
● Don't put food items back in the refrigerator thinking they will be used later. They probably won't. Either throw them away or take them with you. If it is something you want to keep, date and label it.
● If you take things from the kitchen to another part of the church, please return them.
We appreciate your cooperation.

At the recommendation of our insurance carrier, our church is in need of a good and thorough clean out. Here's the plan: the Trustees are asking all groups large and small to take a good look at the items they have stored in various locations throughout the church. For safety's sake, the emphasis is in the basement and all closets that contain mechanical and electrical equipment, but all areas should be examined. As you evaluate your items, please label those things you want to keep with your group's name and THE DATE. Items you no longer need should be discarded. March 11th is the deadline to accomplish this task. After March 11th, any unclaimed or not labelled items will be brought to the Fellowship Hall. After one week, all items still unclaimed will be disposed of or donated to an appropriate charity. This is a big task, but if we all do our part, it will get done. Any questions, please feel free to call Melanie Ribble, Trustees Chairperson. Many hands make light the work.

Puerto Rico Mission Trip Possibility
The United Methodist Volunteers in Mission are now scheduling volunteer groups to help with ongoing recovery after the devastating hurricane of September 2017.
We are hoping to form a team from Broadway UMC for an 8 to 9 day trip late fall of this year to reconstruct houses and sanctuaries. The work is heavy, with warm temperatures and higher elevations. The minimum age is 18. The cost per person is around $1,000 which includes rustic lodging (no electricity), meals, and airfare. Costs of renting a van for the group and hiring a translator ($1,800) can hopefully be covered from Outreach funds. A meeting for those interested is tentatively planned for Sunday, April 15 at 10 a.m.
in the Fellowship Hall. If you would like more information,
please contact Mary Margaret at [email protected]
Good Friday Hike
The Broadway Hikers are heading out after the Good Friday Service on March 30 for a night hike at Cades Cove. Bring a flashlight, water and a snack. Please make a reservation through the church office. Leave from the church at 8:15 after the service is over.
The Youth White Elephant Sale will be Saturday, April 7. This fundraiser will go to support Youth mission efforts. As storage space in the church is at a premium and the Fellowship Hall will be used between now and then, we ask that you hold donations until Monday, April 2. If you will need assistance bringing your donations during the week of April 2-6 , you can contact Jim Gass .
