Principal's Message

Fall is upon us and many of you are enjoying trips to the orchard, hay rides and pumpkin picking.  Thank you for sharing all of your photos.  We love seeing pictures of your family making such special memories.  We have made some of our own recently.

Brown Elementary School has officially been announced as a 2016 National Blue Ribbon School.  I am so proud of our staff that have worked very hard along with your children to bring this honor to our school.  Thank you parents for all of your support.

Be safe Brown Families and enjoy your Fall Break!  Our thoughts will be with our friends in  the coastal states as they battle the weather facing them.  Please use caution if you are traveling to the impacted areas.

Kind regards,

Casey Smitherman

The character trait for the month of October is Responsibility.  Responsibility means being accountable for what we say and do.  Last week we celebrated College Go Week.   This is a week for students to be thinking of their plans for college and career success. There are many things they can do now to ensure a successful future, such as doing their homework, paying attention in class, eating right and getting enough sleep at night.

Some parent tips to support your students as they continue on their path to a successful future are:

*    Read to your child and consider setting up a special time of day where you and your child both read.  This will help your child develop an interest in reading that will last a lifetime.
*    Check your child's homework and follow their progress in school (grades on homework/in class assignments can be monitored by using the parent Powerschool account.  If you need help setting that up, just contact the school office).
*    Start saving for your child's education today by opening up a 529 Direct Savings Plan.  Visit CollegeChoiceDirect.com for more information.

Body Safety Parent Preview Night:  Tuesday, November 1st

Location:  Eagle Elementary Cafeteria from 6:00 - 7:00

Parents are invited to attend this meeting to learn about the age-appropriate lessons that will be taught to your children this school year by the elementary school counselors. Unfortunately, recent counts show that sexual abuse of children takes place more often than we would like to believe. As a result, our children need to be taught assertiveness and self-protection skills to prevent such tragedies. This program is presented in a non-threatening, informative way.

Parents, please join us so that you can see the videos and hear about the lessons that will be presented at each grade level. For the lessons we will be using the same videos as last year for all grades with the exception of 4th grade.  A new video will be used this year.
