We are looking for students to serve as substitute Museum guards at the Haffenreffer Museum.
Job Description: This position is for a substitute guard/greeter at the Museum's public space in Manning Hall. In this position, you will be the liaison with the Museum's public audiences and the campus community. You will maintain a physical presence in the gallery to ensure the security and protection of the collection on exhibit. You will be put on a list of substitutes from which our permanent guard can call on an as-needed basis. If you are not available for the time needed, then he will call someone else on the list. In that way, the position is pretty flexible. Please note that this position is on an as-needed basis and a way to make extra money and get involved with the Museum. There is no guarantee of the number of hours you will work. Job Qualifications: You should be in your sophomore year or above. You must have the ability to provide clear and understandable information to visitors, and answer routine questions regarding the gallery, its exhibits, and the museum. The position requires the ability to maintain a friendly and cooperative demeanor with visitors and staff. You must have the ability to effectively respond to emergency/urgent situations, make phone contact with appropriate responders and provide accurate and concise information regarding the nature of the emergency. Students in anthropology, archaeology, ethnic studies, history, or other related field are preferred. A one-hour training session will be provided.
