It was announced today that skateboarding superstar Bucky Lasek would be piloting a FormulaSPEED2.0 in this weekend's double header race event with World Speed Motorsports.
For over 20 years, Lasek has been one of skateboarding's top athletes, winning gold medals at every event from X Games to the Triple Crown of Skateboarding. Throughout his career, Lasek always maintained an interest in cars, inspiring him to attend multiple driving schools and attain numerous racing licenses. Lasek won the Long Beach Grand Prix Celebrity Race, and went on to podium finishes in both the Mustang Challenge, and as a guest driver in the Viper Cup series. In 2012, he started competing in the Global Rallycross Championship as a member of the Subaru PUMA Rallycross Team. "We are stoked to have Bucky involved in our program," stated WSM Team Owner Telo Stewart. "It will be a learning curve, as the car is quite different from what he is used to. With the kind of dedication Bucky is known for, we expect him to be up to speed very quickly." The Formula Car Challenge West Coast Region, which is in its ninth season, features a 18-race schedule. Eleven of the races will take place at Sonoma Raceway on a variety of the track's configurations. A large percentage of the series drivers are local California hobbyists, but the series has also been a breeding ground for up-and-coming professional racers. Over the past few season alumni of the Formula Car Challenge have graduated into SportsCars, the Pro Mazda Championship, Indy Lights, and the IZOD IndyCar Series. |
