The Transit Authority Police Department, along with several other local and federal agencies, will be conducting a collaborative active shooter emergency response drill at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport on Saturday, September 29, 2018. This exercise will run overnight, beginning at 10:00 p.m. and running until approximately 4:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 30, 2018.

One of the main purposes of this drill will be to test the response of various law enforcement agencies in a possible active shooter situation. We will also be testing the interaction of fire and EMS with law enforcement during such an event.

To assist in making this exercise as realistic as possible, we are looking to utilize 300-400 volunteers who are willing to participate. Your role as a volunteer will be to act as a regular citizen/traveler within certain areas of the airport. We will also be selecting a small number of interested volunteers to play the role of injured victims.

Volunteers will be asked to arrive at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport Firehouse, located at 120 Amherst Villa Road in Cheektowaga, between 9:15 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. depending on what group you’re in. We will follow up with you through email before the exercise to inform you of your group/time. Upon arrival volunteers will check-in and be given a wrist band that will correlate with an assigned area within the airport.

All volunteers will be transported to the airport by bus shortly after check-in. The drill is estimated to start around 12:30 a.m. When the drill concludes, volunteers will be transported back to the firehouse.

All volunteers must be available for the entirety of this exercise.

Because of the nature of this exercise, volunteers must be at least 14 years old. Volunteers who are between the ages of 14-17 must be accompanied by a parent or have a signed parent release form.

If you are a high school or college student and your school is willing to accept this exercise as a community service, you will be provided a certificate of participation.

If you are interested in being a volunteer, please fill out the forms linked below and email them to [email protected] or mail it to Jeanette Buffamonti at the address listed below no later than Friday, September 7th . If you sign up and are unable to attend, please email or call to let us know.

Thank you,
