GOLF SOLD OUT; 'BID ON A BUILDER' STARTS NOW!    

golf4.jpg SNHBA salutes its members for the significant outpouring of support for the association's Spring Builders Golf Classic, hosted by Security National Mortgage Co . The tournament is set for Friday, May 12 at the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort.

The association launched promotion and sign-ups for the tournament on February 7. 

All major sponsorships are sold. All 288 player positions are either sold or committed to the " Bid on a Builder" silent auction. The association has started a Waiting List in case there are any player/foursome openings closer to the date of the tournament.

SNHBA thanks the 12 builder members who have signed up to participate in " Bid on a Builder." Winning bidders play golf with the builder on whom they placed the winning bid. Bidding begins at $900, which is the foursome registration fee, and increases in increments of $100. Builders and bidders must be SNHBA members in good standing to participate.

A panel of judges have selected the 2017 Silver Nugget Awards finalists. The winners will be announced at the awards dinner April 1 at the Red Rock Resort.

Registration has begun for the 2017 Silver Nugget Awards, a joint program of the association and member, the Las Vegas Review-Journal, to honor the best and brightest in the local homebuilding industry.

The awards will be presented at a gala dinner set for 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, April 1 at the Red Rock Resort. Ticket prices are $125 per person; $1,250 for a table.

SNHBA FINALIZING PLANS FOR REAL ESTATE EXPO      
 
The 2017 Real Estate Expo Las Vegas will be conducted April 20-23 at the Orleans Arena with free and convenient parking at the facility.

SNHBA and industry partners are finalizing the details for the 2nd annual Real Estate Expo Las Vegas, an event designed to benefit homebuilding and real estate industry professionals, would-be home buyers, investors, boomerang buyers and those who are interested in real estate. The Expo is open and free to the public.

The program begins the evening of Thursday, April 20 with a VIP dinner and " Back the Badge" concert, featuring country singer, Rodney Atkins, to benefit local law enforcement 501 (c) 3 non-profit organizations, in particular, the Injured Police Officers Fund of Las Vegas and Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S). Ticket sales will begin in March.

Home Builders Research of Las Vegas' " 2017 Housing Outlook" presentation is scheduled for the morning of Friday, April 21. HBR will present information about economic conditions in the local housing market, including a significant amount of statistical data. Special guest speakers will be North Las Vegas Mayor John Lee, who will talk about the economic and housing growth in that city; and Tim Sullivan, principal at the nationally respected Meyers Research Group-Zonda. SNHBA is pleased to be among the Housing Outlook sponsors. Ticket sales will begin in March at the company's website, homebuildersresearch.com.

The Real Estate Expo, on the floor of the Orleans Arena, will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, April 22, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, April 23. About 18 local homebuilders will be among the exhibitors showing off their products and services to potential homebuyers.

This year, the Expo will include a "Home Design Showcase," an area featuring outdoor and interior products and services. SNHBA invites its members and guests to be part of the special gathering of association members at the Las Vegas 51s vs Albuquerque Isotopes baseball game set for 7 p.m., Thursday, April 28 at Cashman Field in downtown Las Vegas.

SNHBA will be in Section 17 and Section 18, with access to the 1st Base Club Level Deck, above the reserved seating area. Seats will provide a great view of the game with some privacy for the group.

All tickets are $11, with $3 going to the association's HomeAid Southern Nevada chapter to build shelter for the homeless in our community. Last year, SNHBA members purchased more than 500 tickets to the game; $1,000 was contributed to HomeAid.

HomeAid Southern Nevada Executive Director Caitlin Shea will sing the National Anthem, and Rick Barron of Century Communities will throw the first pitch.

In addition to that excitement, it will also be "$1 beer night"!

PROFESSIONAL WOMEN IN BUILDING COUNCIL UPDATE  
Last year, more than 80 SNHBA members and special guests turned out for the 1st PWB "Wine Pull" scholarship fundraiser at Monark Premium Appliance Co.

SNHBA's chapter of NAHB Professional Women in Building will present its 2nd annual " Wine Pull: An Evening Uncorked," with proceeds benefiting local scholarships for students studying in the construction industry.

The mixer is set for 5:30 p.m., Thursday, April 6 at Monark Premium Appliance Co. Additional information and registration will be available in March.

Attendees are asked to purchase a cork for $20. The number on the cork corresponds with a number on a wine bottle valued from $15 to $100. At last year's event, more than $4,000 was raised for the PWB scholarship fund.

The NAHB Professional Women in Building Council (PWB) is the voice of women in the building industry, dedicated to promoting industry professionalism and supporting members at the local, state and national levels. SNHBA GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS UPDATE

The association's government affairs department is working on many issues of importance to its members, the industry and homebuyers.

ENERGY CONSERVATION CODE 
SNHBA recently announced that all local jurisdictions will accept onsite energy generation from solar panels and windmills for International Energy Conservation Code compliance. This will allow for innovation and trade-offs, while meeting the performance requirements of the IECC adopted by the jurisdictions. SNHBA LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE
The association's government affairs staff and members of the Legislative Committee are hard at work on numerous issues presented at the Nevada Legislature, which opened the session on February 6. MEMBER SPOTLIGHT - MICK GALATIO

SNHBA salutes member Mick Galatio for bringing in 22 new members to the association. Mick is a member of the prestigious NAHB Spike Club because of his efforts to bring in new members and retain existing members.

Mick is the president of Desert Wind Homes. He served as the association's president in 2008, and he continues to be an active member of SNHBA and NAHB. A native of the small, rural community of Hornell in western New York, Mick served in the U.S. Marine Corp at Camp Pendleton, Calif., in the early 1970s. He returned to western New York and earned an associate degree in building construction from Alfred State University. He headed west in 1975, finding good jobs in construction in Las Vegas, so he planted roots here. In 1995, he and two partners founded Desert Wind Homes, and he became very active at SNHBA. He was named 2005 Builder Member of the Year for his outstanding service to the association and the industry.

This from Builder Online: Sekisui House, Ltd. and Woodside Homes announced that the companies have entered into a definitive merger agreement under which Sekisui will acquire 100 percent ownership of Woodside. Sekisui, Japan's largest homebuilder, will complete the transaction through one of its wholly-owned U.S. subsidiaries. Woodside is one of America's top 30 homebuilders, having built more than 40,000 homes across the United States, with current operations in Arizona, California, Nevada. The Safety Consultation and Training section of the state of Nevada Division of Industrial Relations presented PetersenDean Roofing with its prestigious "Safe Partner Award" in recognition of the company's continued workplace safety efforts. The award is presented annually to only four of the 50,000 employers in Nevada.

Longtime homebuilding industry executive Walter Cuculic has been named senior vice president - renewable energy at AVANA Capital of Glendale, AZ.

Actus, an engineering, surveying, consulting and planning company, will host an open house on the occasion of its 1st anniversary. INDUSTRY NEWS   
 
The Las Vegas City Council has approved the annexation of more than 4,500 acres of Bureau of Land Management property in the northwest valley adjacent to the Tule Springs Fossil Beds National Monument and the Red Rock National Conservation Area. The zoning is civic (CV), general commercial (C-2) and undeveloped (U). The additional property adds about seven square miles to the city's size.

The city of North Las Vegas recently established a "Self-certification Program" in an effort to accelerate the traditional plan-review process for eligible development projects. Professionals who may qualify for the self-certification are: architects, engineers and landscape architects. Click here to read more about the program.

IN MEMORIAM  

Former SNHBA lobbyist James "Jim" Spinello passed away peacefully January 25 at the Nathan Adelson Hospice. He was 67. Spinello was local director of government affairs at R&R Partners. He was a Nevada state assemblyman and an assistant director of administrative services for Clark County. Click here to read the full obituary in the Review-Journal.

Gary Johnson, former executive director of the Henderson Chamber of Commerce and a friend to SNHBA on Henderson issues, passed away January 22. He was 74. The National Association of Home Builders has a large selection of educational offerings for members.
