Time is running out to RSVP for the 2017 Silver Nugget Awards, a joint program of the association and member, the Las Vegas Review-Journal, to honor the best and brightest in the local homebuilding industry.

The awards will be presented at a gala dinner set for 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, April 1 at the Red Rock Resort. Ticket prices are $125 per person; $1,250 for a table.

More than 300 SNHBA members and special guests have registered to attend the Silver Nugget Awards dinner and presentation. If you haven't registered already, please register now.

Also, the association will present a Lifetime Achievement Award to Past President Randy Black Sr. 

In 1977, Black established Diversified Interests, a real estate development, property management and brokerage service based in Las Vegas. He is also the owner of Clear River LLC., a fully licensed medical marijuana company.

The company built more than 3,400 single-family homes and condominium units in metropolitan Las Vegas. Black distinguished himself as a developer of affordable homes for first-time homebuyers. SNHBA members elected him to the board of directors in the 1990s, and he was president of the association in 2000.

TICKETS ON SALE FOR 'BACK THE BADGE' CONCERT AT THE 2017 REAL ESTATE EXPO LAS VEGAS

SNHBA and industry partners are pleased to present the 2nd annual Real Estate Expo Las Vegas, an event
designed to benefit homebuilding and real estate industry professionals, would-be homebuyers, investors, boomerang buyers and those who are interested in real estate. The Expo is open and free to the public.

The program begins the evening of Thursday, April 20 with a VIP dinner and " Back the Badge" concert, featuring country singer, Rodney Atkins, to benefit local law enforcement 501 (c) 3 non-profit organizations, in particular, the Injured Police Officers Fund of Las Vegas and Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S).

Registrants can opt to sign up for the VIP dinner and concert, with prices ranging from $150 to $250 per person; or just the concert, which is priced at $21.11 plus fees per person.

Home Builders Research of Las Vegas' " 2017 Housing Outlook" presentation is scheduled for the morning of Friday, April 21. HBR will present information about economic conditions in the local housing market, including a significant amount of statistical data.

Special guest speakers will be North Las Vegas Mayor John Lee,  Tim Sullivan, principal at the nationally respected Meyers Research Group-Zonda, and Spencer Baliff, senior vice president multifamily at CBRE Capital Markets. SNHBA is pleased to be among the Housing Outlook sponsors.

SNHBA invites its members and guests to be part of the special gathering of association members at the Las Vegas 51s vs Albuquerque Isotopes baseball game set for 7 p.m., Thursday, April 27 at Cashman Field in downtown Las Vegas.

SNHBA will be in Section 17 and Section 18, with access to the 1st Base Club Level Deck, above the reserved seating area. Seats will provide a great view of the game with some privacy for the group.

All tickets are $11, with $3 going to the association's HomeAid Southern Nevada chapter to build shelter for the homeless in our community. Last year, SNHBA members purchased more than 500 tickets to the game; $1,000 was contributed to HomeAid.

PROFESSIONAL WOMEN IN BUILDING COUNCIL UPDATE  

wine-sm.jpg SNHBA's chapter of NAHB Professional Women in Building will present its 2nd annual " Wine Pull: An Evening Uncorked," with proceeds benefiting local scholarships for students studying in the construction industry.

The mixer is set for 5:30 p.m., Thursday, April 6 at Monark Premium Appliance Co.

Attendees are asked to purchase a cork for $20. The number on the cork corresponds with a number on a wine bottle valued from $15 to $100. At last year's event, more than $4,000 was raised for the PWB scholarship fund.

SNHBA GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS UPDATE

The association's government affairs department is working on many issues of importance to its members, the industry and homebuyers.

Jeremy Susac
ENERGY CHOICE 
SNHBA is pleased to be involved in Governor Brian Sandoval's newly created Governor's Committee on Energy Choice. The association nominated, and the governor has accepted the nomination of Jeremy Susac, vice president of government affairs at Lennar Ventures Corp., to represent the homebuilding industry on the committee. Lennar Ventures Corp., is the innovation arm of Lennar Corp., the largest builder in Northern Nevada and one of the top three residential builders in Southern Nevada. Governor Sandoval announced plans for the Committee on Energy Choice during his State of State address in January. The establishment of the committee is in response to voter approval in November of Ballot Question 3: The Energy Choice Initiative, which would amend the Nevada Constitution if voters approve the initiative again in the 2018 general election.

The tournament, which is sold out, is set for Friday, May 12 at the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort. SNHBA staff and volunteers will assemble the 288 player bags the week of May 8.

Possible items include:

SNHBA salutes member Trevor Brilman for outstanding participation in association activities and support for the association's membership events, including the golf tournaments and the association's HomeAid Southern Nevada chapter.

Trevor is business development manager at Security National Mortgage. He has worked in the local financial service and real estate industries for more than five years.

USI Silver State Specialties has hired Nat Hodgson branch manager in metropolitan Las Vegas. Hodgson has served nearly five years as executive director and chief executive officer of the Southern Nevada Home Builders Association.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration's new rule on silica exposure limits and action levels, as well as requirements for employee exposure assessments, exposure controls, medical surveillance, respiratory protection, hazard communication and recordkeeping goes into effect on June 21. INDUSTRY NEWS   
 
Clark County has opened a branch office of the Recorder and Assessor operations at the Henderson City Hall, 240 S. Water St. in downtown Henderson. A grand opening is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 23. Most of the services offered by the Recorder and Assessor's offices are available at the branch office.

The Center for Urban Transportation Research at the University of South Florida has named the city of Henderson one of the "Best Workplaces for Commuters" for offering employee commuter benefits that meet national standards of excellence. Henderson is among only 231 workplaces nationwide that have committed to employee commuter benefits that result in an estimated 14 percent of employees sharing rides to work within a 12-month period. The city offers several commuter benefits, including a compressed work week, carpool matching program, emergency ride home program and preferred parking.

The International Economic Development Council recently announced that the city of Las Vegas Economic and Urban Development Department has been recognized as an "Accredited Economic Development Organization." Only 54 (less than 1 percent) of economic development organizations in the United States have achieved accreditation status.

Seven Nevada Realtors recently returned from a global real estate market, business conference and networking event in Cannes, France where they promoted real estate opportunities in Nevada. The Realtors represented the Nevada Association of REALTORS, the Greater Las Vegas Association of REALTORS, the Reno-Sparks Association of REALTORS and the Commercial Alliance Las Vegas.   
HOMEAID SOUTHERN NEVADA UPDATE

U.S. VETS facility, which provides meals to formerly homeless veterans.
 

SNHBA members are invited to attend the official opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the U.S. VETS kitchen remodeling and expansion project scheduled for 8 a.m., Wednesday, April 5 at 525 E. Bonanza Road, in downtown Las Vegas.

The festivities will include breakfast, music, tours and a special ceremony to thank those who contributed to this project. Please RSVP no later than March 30 to [email protected].

HomeAid Southern Nevada recently completed the kitchen expansion and renovation project, which is valued at more than $460,000, and includes the addition of 1,000 square feet to the current kitchen space. The kitchen received a walk-in refrigerator, walk-in food storage area, commercial oven and cooktop and is wheelchair accessible.
