Welcome to Dawn
June 2017
Generocity 2017
Dawn was thrilled to attend the 4th annual Generocity event in Seattle last week.  We were one of 40 non-profits invited to attend this night of Philanthropy.  Guests purchased tickets and enjoyed food and drinks while visiting the tables and learning about each non-profit.  They were excited to hear about Green Dot Dawn, and our Healthy Relationships programs.  They are both geared toward preventing domestic violence in our communities.

Volunteers Needed at Dawn
We'd love to see your smiling face around here! Check out the link below for opportunities we have right now for new volunteers.
Grand Opening - A Success!
Our Ribbon Cutting and Grand Opening in May was a huge success.  We had a wonderful turnout of donors, community leaders and supporters.

Those attending heard about our plan for bringing peace to the community, and got a tour of our new building space at 2nd and Gowe St.

We want to thank Mama Stortinis restaurant for providing excellent food, and Kent Station for donating several door prizes.

We also want to thank Kent's Mayor, Suzette Cooke and the Kent Chamber of Commerce for the support.

Thank You Kent Rotary
Thank you to Kent Rotary for the generous donations of $2,000 for upgrades needed in our emergency shelter.  It's so nice to know when unexpected things happen, we have such a great support system in our community.

Gift Cards Needed
Our organization often is asked what we need most to help our clients.
Right now we are running really low on gift cards. These are the emergency funds we use when someone walks in off the street and has nowhere to stay, no food, no gas left in their car, etc.
What we really need are Fred Meyer, Safeway, Arco gas cards, and Walmart cards in $20-$25 denominations.
We can only take 13 families in the shelter at a time. All the others (thousands of people each year), need more immediate help to get by until they can meet with advocates and form a safety plan.
If you are able to help, you would literally be helping someone survive. Gift Card donations can be dropped off at our office at 221 W. Gowe Street in Kent. Or mailed to:  DAWN, P.O. Box 1449, Kent WA 98035

GoFundME campaign to send kids to camp
We are overjoyed at the early response to our first ever GoFundMe effort.  We have already raised $700 to help send kids who are survivors of domestic violence to Summer Camp.   Our goal is $1,000.

We have 10 kids who are currently in our Domestic Violence Shelter that have signed up for a week long overnight Summer Camp in July.  The camp itself was paid for by the Salvation Army - and we are so very grateful.

But these kids have next to nothing, so just getting them the basics to attend the camp is expensive.

They need everything from sunscreen, bug spray, tennis shoes, shorts & t-shirts, and bathing suit , etc.

Sleeping bags and towels have been generously donated already!  (AMAZING!)

Kids fleeing domestic violence with a parent usually arrive with the clothes on their backs, and nothing else.  Their lives are turned upside down and this week at camp will offer a glimpse of normalcy and give them a chance to just be a kid.

We estimate they will each need about $75-$100 dollars worth of items to attend for the week.

Thank you for rising up for peace with DAWN!
