With the ever on going negative news surrounding our industry and the global economic climate along with the European debates that are going on, we are pleased that our news will bring you a positive outlook and hopefully some good news for you individually as well as collectively. With this some of our recent 'HOT NEWS' concerns the regional development of commercial diver safety and training which KBAT offers in Singapore by extending this with a signed MOU with Professional Diving Academy (PDA), whereby the commercial divers that are trained in Singapore with KBAT to inland / inshore 30msw SSDE Level 2, can continue their training to the UK HSE Part 1 offshore diving certification.
We have been working closely with PDA to provide the relevant information so that the KBAT courses can be approved as recognition of a prior learning. Commercial divers who have completed KBAT nine-week training course can now apply to PDA to attend the HSE Surface Supplied - Top-Up training course for the 50m diver training element of the HSE Part 1. The HSE Part 1 Commercial diving certificate is automatically recognised by IMCA and regarded by many in the oil and gas industry as the 'Gold Standard'. Read more below.
Within the operations of KBA and KBA Europe we have seen an increase in services showing that the work offshore is there, although not in the amount as we have historically known, it is good to see in various regions opportunities remain for individuals and companies.
In the most recent news release, there is a record of 32 fatalities as of 24 May 2016, out of which construction sector recorded 15 fatalities, up from eight in the same period last year. Falls from heights is the leading cause of fatal injury in the top 2 sectors (Construction and Marine). This figure is alarming and has brought together agencies to review the policies and urging relevant industries to review their safety procedures are updated and to make sure control measures are established. Read more below
The rest of the year will be full of excitement when we have FIVE events in the pipeline: with new presence at Myanmar Training Development Expo and OPITO Safety & Competence Conference, plus not forgetting our biennial presence at OS+H Asia and OSEA. Oil & Gas industry might be at a low point, but this is the time to re-charge and innovate as opportunity comes to those who are prepared and doesn't knock twice. SO, mark down your calendar for these events.
We hope the news update below brings a smile and happiness to you, KBA are here to provide our clients with safety consultancy and the individuals who attend the training opportunities to develop their career's and competence. We will look forward to working with you for the months ahead.
Please feel free to contact us or join us on Facebook for regular updates.
Yours Sincerely,
Managing Director

2. KBAT: NEW Accreditation under ISO 29990:2010 Standard
To raise the quality of workplace safety and health (WSH) training, the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) Singapore has made it a requirement for learning service providers to attain the ISO 29990:2010 Learning Service Provider (LSP) certification.
The ISO 29990:2010 LSP certification is administered by the Singapore Accreditation Council (SAC) through its certification bodies (CBs) and will replace the MOM Accredited Training provider (ATP) scheme.
|
3. KBAT: Locally Trained Commercial Divers can look forward to 'Top-up' their training to HSE UK Accredited (IMCA Recognised) Standard
KBAT has signed a MOU with Professional Diving Academy (PDA)
whereby commercial divers trained by KBAT under the ISO 29990 standard and Ministry of Manpower Singapore Standards can attend a TOP UP course at PDA to complete their HSE Part 1.
Over the recent months, KBAT has been working closely with PDA to provide the relevant information so that HSE recognition of a prior learning and competence would be accepted.
Now, delegates who have completed the nine-week commercial diving training can thereafter apply to PDA to attend a training programme
to complete the UK HSE offshore diving qualification.
The HSE commercial diving certificate is automatically recognised by IMCA, and is regarded by many in the oil and gas industry as the 'Gold Standard'. It is preferred by many major clients that require divers for subsurface repair and maintenance projects.

KBAT Head of Diving Training, Alan Rhodes, recently conducted a 5 day DDC Operator course for NICO International Underwater Services Division, at their base in Fujairah UAE. NICO had recently taken delivery of a brand new Deck Decompression Chamber from Unique Systems, primarily for emergency and contingency use.
Alan said, "NICO divers have lots of years of diving experience, many of them being ex-navy, but were unfamiliar or inexperienced with the daily operation of deck decompression chambers. This training gave them practical experience & confidence to conduct routine surface decompression diving & be practice ready for any decompression illness or pulmonary barotraumas. I found NICO divers easy to work with, keen, attentive, eager to learn & professional".
The training consisted of theoretical & practical training for the divers, ranging from medical & physiological aspects & routine operation through to emergency procedures & contingencies. At the end of the course the divers were assessed by a practical exercise and a written examination.
Ryan Wilson, Manager of NICO Underwater Services Division commented, "Our divers have given us very positive feedback with how the training went. This is the second training course we have attended with KB Associates (DMT in December) and we are very pleased with the correspondence, training content and instructors. Should we have more training requirements in the future KB Associates will be our training provider of choice".
|
Delegates are required to take a refresher course at the end of second year in order to remain certified as a IMCA recognised Diver Medic Technician.
