Bowing to public pressure, Ringling Brothers are retiring all ellies a year and a half sooner than expected! (thanks Jane Welowszky for sharing):

BUT --wait for it, what exactly is Ringling Brothers plans for the elephants going forward -- a little something about a breeding program and cancer research?  Yep, retire them to research. They'll enjoy funding, and the ellies will enjoy nothing:

ANIMALS & RESCUERS IN NEED

I'm putting this in the "animals in need" category, because
ALL farm animals are in need of their caregivers' developing an "exit strategy" in emergencies. ( Really insightful of the Toronto Star to publish this.):

Also, note ALL farms:  small farms, sanctuaries, hobby farms all need "succession plans" for their actual rescues too - not just to deal with safety emergencies, but also to deal with any catastrophic event -- like caregiver illness/death -- farms MUST have a plan for the ongoing care of their animals. Please think on this, and get it onto the calendar as a must-do this year!

The bigger story behind Cecil the Lion that the media missed:  If you really care and really want to help, the thing to do would be to share this story with friends and family, and help educate. The only way out of this is education.
