Recent Graduate Opportunity
to Serve as a CAAHEP Commissioner and
a Member of the Board of Directors
The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs ( CAAHEP) is seeking a recent graduate of a CAAHEP accredited program to serve as a CAAHEP Commissioner and on its Board of Directors. CAAHEP recognizes the importance of including all of our communities of interest in the accreditation process, and the Recent Graduate Commissioner that sits on the Board brings a unique perspective to the governance of CAAHEP. Those who serve as Recent Graduate Commissioner also begin to enhance his/her resume and build professional relations with those in allied health education across the country. 

The duties of the Recent Graduate Commissioner are listed below, along with the qualifications for this position. As you have a CAAHEP accredited program in your institution, please share this with recent graduates who may be interested in serving in this position.

Representative of Students  
The interests of students in the accreditation of health science education programs are represented in the governance of CAAHEP by a Recent Graduate of a CAAHEP-accredited program. "Recent graduate" is someone who has graduated  no more than three years prior  to being elected.
 
Besides being a graduate of a CAAHEP accredited program within the last three years, the Recent Graduate Commissioner must be currently working in the health science field for which he/she was trained. The candidate must also demonstrate active involvement in  his/her health science field.

The Recent Graduate attends all Board of Directors meetings (either by conference call or face-to-face meetings) and helps to monitor accreditation actions with particular attention to due process. Each April, he/she will attend the Annual Meeting of Commissioners, and, p articipates in the business meeting of the Commission, which includes such activities as electing the CAAHEP Board Members, amending CAAHEP Bylaws, changing CAAHEP mission and vision statements, approving new organizations for membership, and recognizing health science disciplines.

The Recent Graduate also brings to the attention of the Commission educational concerns that impact on the accreditation of academic programs, especially concerns of students and alumni. There is also an opportunity to participate as an observer in a CAAHEP accreditation site visit. The Recent Graduate will address the Commission at the Annual Business Meeting on a topic of her/his choice.

 

The Recent Graduate Commissioner serves a three-year term, and he/she is eligible for re-election. The term begins July 1.  Expenses incurred by the Recent Graduate Commissioner in attending the CAAHEP Annual Meeting and any face-to-face Board meetings will be paid by CAAHEP.

To be considered for the Recent Graduate position, please complete the Recent Graduate Commissioner Nominations Form and return it with your resume, and names and contact information of three references. Forms  are due by March 1, 2017, for consideration by the Board at their March 17, 2017, Board meeting. CAAHEP's Executive Director may contact the references on the Nominations Form and request a letter of recommendations. The Board will review all nominees and the CAAHEP President will notify the person elected following the March meeting.
