2017 was a year of change and growth for The Center for Applied Drama and Autism. We moved from downtown Akron into a beautiful studio space in The Village at New Seasons and added a brand new day theatre program for adults with autism and other disabilities in partnership with Ardmore Inc. We also presented an original play on the topic of bullying by Josh Dushack, playwright and autism advocate.

Our goals for 2018 include community outreach in West Akron -- we want to serve more minority youth and adults on the spectrum through classes and events that are designed to promote inclusiveness and opportunities to grow as artists and as citizens.

CADA to host a Sensory Room at Akron First Night!

CADA will be at the Downtown Main Library on New Year's Eve participating in Akron's First Night by hosting a safe and mellow space for those seeking a bit of respite from the crowds attending Akron's First Night.

We will be in the meeting room across from the auditorium on the second floor. There we will have comfy bean bag chairs, sensory safe lighting and music and some calming activities such as coloring and watching nature videos. Our volunteers will be on hand to make sure everyone is comfortable and calm. We will have some hands-on toys and gadgets designed for people with autism. Youth, adults and their families are welcome to stop in from 6 to 10:30 pm.

Drop-in Classes Continue Throughout December! Register Now for Winter Term!

December Drop-In classes are fun and easy ways to try out an acting class or to keep your skills working between sessions! Classes are for ages 8 - 17 and do not require pre-registration. The classes will be held Saturdays from 10 - 11 AM throughout December. Cost is $25 per class. For more information and to register:

"There's No Business Like Show Business - Holiday Edition!"

We will be performing our cabaret show at our studio on Monday, Dec 11 at 1 PM. This performance is free and open to the public.

On Thursday, Dec 14, you can catch our show at the Wadsworth Goodwill at 1 PM -- in the furniture department! The public is welcome to attend and check out the bargains at the Goodwill as well!

Meet our staff -- Ruben Ryan

Ruben Ryan is lead teacher for our Improv for All Class. He is an actor and comedian who has been doing improv since 2002. He has performed with Point of No Return (PNR) improv, Something Dada, and Just Go With It. He has taught children's improv for Standing Rock Cultrual Arts and was President of the Kent State Improv Club for four years. He also has a theatre degree from Kent State University and coaches various improv groups through-out Northeast Ohio. Join Ruben's class starting January 6th, 2018.

Theatre on the Spectrum is CADA's performance wing. Our youth company rehearses on Saturdays. The adult company operates Monday through Friday from 10:30 am - 3:30 pm as a day theatre program for people on the spectrum of abilities, in collaboration with Ardmore, Inc.
