CAHEC Foundation Donates $20,000 in Scholarships
to Drew Charter School
Last month, the CAHEC Foundation had the opportunity to partner with
Drew Charter School, one of our
New Markets Tax Credit Investments in Atlanta, GA, to sponsor four $5,000 scholarships for their first graduating class. As part of the application process, students were asked to write an essay showing how they exemplify their school Norms: show respect, act responsibly, present professionally, and honor trust. After much deliberation over the 25 applicants, four students were announced as the 2017 Norms Scholarship recipients: John Mali, Mikayla Carney, Kiara Davis, and Yvette Pines. "The students were shocked and so excited to receive this funding. It was a great feeling to see their faces light up when their names were announced," Rachel Kaney, Director of College and Career Readiness for Drew Charter School said. "This is such a great group of students and they are all so grateful!"
The CAHEC Foundation was proud to sponsor scholarships that encourage post-secondary education. Congratulations to the class of 2017, we look forward to following your educational success!

Open Doors Homeownership Grant Deadline July 31
There is still time to share CAHEC's
Open Doors Homeownership Grant opportunity! This year, we are offering three grants to nonprofit organizations engaged in developing for-sale affordable housing to low-income households - one at $25,000; one at $15,000; and one at $10,000. Applications must be submitted through our online
application portal by July 31 to be considered.

Our Mission in Action
- CAHEC New Markets is excited to share the news of the first project closing from the $45 million CY 2015-2016 allocation award - the Rocky Mount Epicenter, a new construction facility in downtown Rocky Mount, NC. The majority of this facility will be designed as an event space with capacity for 5,000 seats, 8 basketball courts or 16 volleyball courts, 6 meeting/conference rooms, 4 multipurpose rooms, a commercial kitchen, café, and staff offices. Another portion of the building will be a family entertainment center which will feature a climbing wall, ball pit and jungle gym, an indoor ropes course, and arcade. The last part of the building will be rented out for a Downtown Health Plaza, which offers walk-in wellness and urgent care, physical therapy, vaccinations, and other health care services. The Epicenter will be a great economic addition to the city of Rocky Mount!
- Congratulations to Glen Lake in Smithfield, NC, on receiving over $9,000 through CAHEC's Active Lifestyle Grant! Funding was used to help install this awesome playground, an amenity the youth are sure to love!

CAHEC's 16th Annual Partners Conference
a Huge Success
This year, over 450 attendees from 17 states and D.C. attended the 16th Annual CAHEC Partners Conference on Tuesday, May 16, and Wednesday, May 17, at the Grandover Resort & Conference Center in Greensboro, NC. CAHEC was excited to welcome attendees to a new venue this year, and beautiful weather made our networking event and industry session updates a huge success.
On Tuesday, attendees tested their knowledge with CAHEC's Tax Credit Trivia game in the afternoon, and were invited to the Outdoor Lawn to celebrate CAHEC's 25th Anniversary that evening. Guests were encouraged to wear black and white to this fun networking event, and participated in various outdoor yard games while enjoying great food, drinks, and live music.
On Wednesday, CAHEC welcomed guests to the Partners Appreciation Luncheon, where organizations and individuals were honored for their outstanding contributions to the affordable housing industry. More information about our award winners can be found below.

On Wednesday, May 17, CAHEC held the annual CAHEC Awards ceremony at the Grandover Resort & Conference Center in Greensboro, North Carolina. For the last 16 years, we have been honored to recognize organizations and individuals for their important contribution to the affordable housing industry. This year was no exception.
