Preparing for a Successful CALEA Conference

The month of November marks the final conference and meeting of the Commission for 2015; however, it is certainly not the end of CALEA's activities for the year.  As an example, in December many agencies, including my own, will have an assessment team visit for accreditation/re-accreditation reviews. 

The reports and findings from these engagements will be prepared by staff and reviewed by the Commission for the upcoming spring meeting.

At a recent CALEA conference, during a conversation regarding multiple accreditations, I was asked my thoughts on the subject.  My enthusiastic response must have startled those standing with me, as I went into what must have appeared as a campaign speech as I spoke.  My positive reply to the inquiry was not only based on many years experience as an assessor, but also as the CEO of an agency holding multiple accreditations. Multiple Programs in the New Accreditation Model

Many public safety agencies involved in multiple accreditation programs have staggered their various accreditation cycles to not overload the accreditation manager with concurrent  assessments.  As CALEA begins the implementation of the new accreditation model, agencies participating in multiple programs may want to pause and reconsider their accreditation management strategy. Reminder for Perspective CALEA Client Agencies

           

Applications for the CALEA Agency Support Program (CASP) are being accepted until December 31, 2015. Recipients will be announced at the March CALEA Conference in St Louis, MO.  This program will provide limited waivers to accreditation fees for agencies with 50 or less full time employees.   A full description of the CASP, as well as the application form, can be viewed under the Resources tab online.

We are a mature CALEA agency having been accredited in Law Enforcement (LE) since 1991 and in Public Safety Communications (COMM) since 2003.  We have also recently been recognized by our state program and all three of these inspections have taken place in 2015. Read On
