This issue's focus on our Canadian agencies led to many fond memories for me.  I grew up in Lower Michigan, and as a child, often camped throughout Ontario, Canada.  On the night following my wedding we were in Windsor, Ontario looking across the Detroit River at the skyline lights reflecting on the water.  Over many years, I've traversed much of Ontario, from the "bush" of the north to the bustling urbanized area of one of my favorite cities in the world, Toronto.  I've also had the pleasure of seeing some of British Columbia way to the west, and its rugged beauty juxtaposed next to the vital city of Vancouver. Read On

The value of the accreditation process is a direct reflection of the universal principles the law enforcement standards embody.  Whether your agency services a community in Barbados, Canada, Mexico, or the United States, the standards are unifying.  They transcend the differences in the structure of our respective policing environments, the regulating bodies and statutes, or the spoken language, and focus instead on the day-to-day delivery of effective policing.  Each service can take great pride in their pursuit of excellence. Accreditation Management with PowerDMS

Accreditation is borderless. Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (CVE) is an example of how the CALEA law enforcement accreditation process assists agencies in the pursuit of excellence regardless of geographic location, functional responsibilities, or size. CVE is a branch under the Public Security Division of Justice and Solicitor General in Alberta, Canada. CVE's mandate differs from police agencies, employing provincially appointed peace officers to enforce commercial vehicles on more than 30,000 kilometers of highways province wide. Read On

Chief Darrell Kambeitz was appointed the Chief of Police for the Camrose Police Service on January 1, 2008.  He has 32 years of police experience with Camrose, and has received training in most aspects of policing. He holds a diploma in Law Enforcement, a certificate from the Executive Development in Policing Program, and is a graduate of the Police Management Development Program. Read On

This month's article focuses specifically on our international clients; and CALEA's commitment to maintaining our internationally based public safety accreditation programming well into the future.  Beginning in the late 1980's, CALEA welcomed its first international clients within Canada.  Since then, many other agencies within Canada, Mexico and Barbados have enjoyed the benefits of CALEA's four public safety accreditation programs. CALEA Commissioner Retirement

Don Hunter

Commissioner Don Hunter has retired from the Commission after serving since January 2007. Commissioner Hunter served as chair for the CALEA Agency Support Program, and was a committee member for SRIC, Strategic Planning (new business) and Review Committee D. His contributions to CALEA have been immeasurable. Thank you Commissioner Hunter for your service.
New Accreditation Process 
Why make changes to the Assessment Model?

null At the Albuquerque, New Mexico CALEA Conference, the Commission approved a new four year award process.  Information on the new process will be available through conference training, resources on the website, and email notifications. For more information on why changes were made click here.
CALEA Conference News

Plans for the March 2015 CALEA Conference in Reno, Nevada are being finalized.  Visit the CALEA conference link for registration information. Advanced registration ends March 4th. Attendees can view a list of workshops on the conference website. 

The Grand Sierra is the conference hotel.  The current rate for the conference hotel is $95 plus tax per night. Reservations at the conference rate must be made by February 23, 2015. The Grand Sierra provides a shuttle to and from the airport that runs every 30 minutes.

Attendees should use the Reno-Tahoe Airport (RNO) for flight arrangements.
New CALEA Conference Workshops

In addition to the usual CALEA process and programming related workshops that are presented at each conference, CALEA is working to provide meaningful training to support client agencies and to ensure we complement standards related issues.  Take note of following workshops offered at the Spring 2015 CALEA Conference.
