Few aspects of policing hold a greater significance than the communications function. Getting it right at the time of a crucial call for service can lay the groundwork for a successful outcome. Getting it wrong can, at best, result in disappointing service and at worst, lives can be lost. It is little wonder that there is great interest in providing a credentialing program for accredited communication centers to promote best practices and excellence in service. Starting my second term as a CALEA Commissioner, I am amazed at how much I have learned. As a subject matter expert in Communications I was a bit intimidated initially with the law enforcement accreditation process having only served as an assessor on a couple of police assessments prior to heading out into the world of communications assessments. My service as an assessor, team leader, Chair of the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO) Call Center Standards Committee, and CEO of an accredited agency served me well going onto the Commission. null  In February two commissioners were appointed to serve on the Board of Commissioners. Douglas Middleton, Chief of Police, Henrico County, Virginia; and Bartram Connelly, Chief of Police, Cape Coral, Florida. The knowledge and experience these individuals bring to CALEA ensures the organization continues to meet its mission of promoting professionalism within the field of public safety.  CALEA congratulates and welcomes our new commissioners!

The Northern New England Police Accreditation Coalition (NNEPAC) has released a new episode of NNEPAC Radio.  In the latest episode, Greg Murphy and John McGregor discuss the new assessment model that was announced at the November 2014 CALEA Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  The episode can be found on iTunes or in Stitcher under NNEPAC Radio, or can be accessed here.
