Regional health priorities highlighted at CAP quarterly luncheon

The intersection of air quality and community health was explored at the Cleaner Air Partnership quarterly meeting on September 23, 2016. Ashley Brand, Director of Community Health and Outreach with Dignity Health, provided an overview of the requirements of nonprofit hospitals for community benefit programs and Community Health Needs Assessments (CHNA).  Valley Vision's Giovanna Forno and Alan Lange shared highlights of regional priority health needs based on an analysis of aggregate CHNA data, and discussed health needs that intersect with air quality. Teri Duarte, an air quality planner for the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District, shared her perspective on how the built environment can be designed to improve health outcomes
Design 4 Active Sacramento recognized for excellence

Design 4 Active Sacramento (D4AS) was recently recognized for Excellence in Active Design by the NYC Center for Active Design. D4AS is a cross-sector coalition, including Sacramento County and WALKSacramento, working to embed health into policies for land use, transportation, and community design to improve health outcomes and climate resilience.

Communities most impacted by poor air quality prioritized for cap-and-trade funds

Governor Brown approved legislation that directs $900 million in cap-and-trade funds to greenhouse gas reducing programs that benefit disadvantaged communities, support clean transportation and protect natural ecosystems. The governor also signed bills that prioritize spending in communities disproportionately impacted by dirty air and carbon pollution.

The CoolCalifornia Small Business Awards program recognizes innovative small businesses demonstrating leadership in integrating sustainability in their operations and promoting climate friendly practices.
