Inspector Certification Partnership: 
LabCAT and the RMAEC are proud to partner with the APWA Colorado Chapter  to provide an opportunity for Agency inspectors to attend the LabCAT Asphalt Paving Materials  Inspector Education or Certification on January 31, This is the day before the annual APWA Inspector Conference, Feb. 1 - Feb 2.  If you are registered for the APWA Inspectors Conference, you can add this training or Certification, contact Wanda DeVargas for more information.   
LabCAT Certification - 2018   
The LabCAT Certification Schedule is available and registration space for the first quarter is filling up fast.  Check the LabCAT Section of  the CAPA website to see the list of Certification sessions scheduled for 2018.  Register early to assure a spot!!     
 
Heading to DURANGO!!  The LabCAT Program will be on the road in 2018.  Certification will be held in Durango beginning March 5th and continue to Mach 8th. Use this link to see the detail and how the certification days are scheduled.  Durango Sessions Registration

 
Introduction to PC/OA Asphalt Testing Education Course is planned for March 13-16 and the following LabCAT certification session is  March 20-22.

Transportation Commission Approves Draft Project List for a potential Statewide Ballot in 2018  The Commission approved a list of high priority projects across the state should a transportation ballot measure be proposed.  A variety of transportation advocates are considering ballot questions for transportation in 2018, including a group led by the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce and including CAPA. Their current plan is to file a ballot question.  This is the first step in the process to petition onto the November 2018 ballot. Because high priority state projects are expected to be a cornerstone of the effort, CDOT has been asked to develop a list of projects that could be funded with a successful ballot question.  Potential Ballot Projects for 2018.

Region 2 Awarded 2017 Director's Cup

Chief Engineer Issues Statement on Project Funding  CDOT Chief Engineer Josh Laipply has issued a statement regarding the status of CDOT funding for 2018 projects and the current cash management situation of the Department.  The RAMP program has come to an end and the Chief Engineer also has provided an informational document on the RAMP Program.

SHRP Webinar: Infrared Profilers and Mat Uniformity  An upcoming Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP) webinar will discuss how paver-mounted infrared thermal profiler equipment can improve asphalt uniformity for stronger, more durable roads. The webinar, Jan. 31 at 12 p.m. MST, will cover topics such as infrared thermal profiling and the importance of mat surface temperature for mat performance. President Trump plans to discuss a $1.7 trillion infrastructure package during the annual State of the Union address. During a White House meeting with mayors from across the country, Trump said his administration is "working to rebuild our crumbling infrastructure by stimulating a $1 trillion investment, and that will probably, end up being about $1.7 trillion."   "And we'll probably be putting that in a week or two, right after the State of the Union address.  Read more .

NAPA President Announces Retirement Plans Mike Acott, President of the National Asphalt Pavement Association, announced that he will retire following the 2019 NAPA Annual Meeting. "It has been an honor to serve as NAPA's President for more than 25 years," said Acott. "Although driven by the challenges and opportunities facing our industry, it is the people in the asphalt industry that have made my tenure so very special for me."
