Our Story
The inspiration behind our book Something New: The Bride's Complete Guide to Writing Thank You Notes, was to simplify and streamline the enormous task of writing thank you notes for wedding gifts. The book includes over 200 sample thank you notes, which range from gifts of china to peculiar gifts for which a bride may not quite know the best way to thank the recipient of the note. The book also includes tips on how to address thank you notes based on each recipient's title and living situation. Our companion book Something New: The Bride's Complete Guide to Tracking Thank You Notes offers brides an organized way to record each gift they have received, who gave them each gift, and whether or not a thank you note has been mailed for each gift. The book is divided into 10 sections for different wedding events, with room to record information for up to 50 gifts for each event. We are available to speak at schools, churches, libraries, and other events.
How CAWBC Helped
We have attended several CAWBC events. Probably the most helpful for us was a program for authors and those who hoped to become authors. We met our editor, Liz Reed, through this presentation at the CAWBC, and through Mrs. Reed's presentation, we learned about the Local Authors Expo at the Birmingham Public Library, where we first offered our book for sale. We also recently attended a presentation, also by Ms. Reed, on how to market self-published books. At these presentations, we've been able to network with other authors. Another informative presentation offered by the CAWBC was on the importance of marketing a business using social media such as Facebook and Twitter. This particular presentation stressed the importance of regularly posting updates via social media and on websites. Most of our book sales have come through Internet sales, and so this marketing information was really helpful for us.
The CAWBC offers helpful resources, and we look forward to utilizing more of those resources as we grow our business.
"Wanted: One Silver Lining"
Times are difficult right now especially if you're just starting out, but we know there are some success stories out there. Here's your chance to share yours with other business owners. Write to us and tell us your start-up success story. And if CAWBC had a part, please let us know that and exactly how we helped. The next spotlight may be you!
