Death of the Indie? Don't Believe the Hype!

Save The Bookstore Day took place last weekend, and while some bookstore owners aren't crazy about the name, they all want to communicate the message that their stores are thriving thanks to loyal customers who value the sense of community that bookstores engender.

Nicholas Hoare's Montreal Store Remaining Open

Nicholas Hoare's Montreal location, previously slated to close along with his Ottawa store, will remain open until the end of the year after Westmount Mayor Peter Trent intervened on its behalf.
"We are therefore throwing down the gauntlet. Since we have been operating the store pro bono for quite some time ourselves, it is now our customers' call, not ours, as to whether we leave or stay in January," owner Nicholas Hoare said in a statement Tuesday."
