Margaret Atwood's Lifetime Achievement Award Speech

Canadian literary icon Margaret Atwood was honoured this past Sunday night at CBA's Libris Awards, where she was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Ms. Atwood was on hand to accept the award, and she delighted the attendees with a passionate and insightful acceptance speech in which she explained why she thinks that paper books will continue to flourish, ending with thanks to the booksellers who have aided her in her life's work. A recording of Ms. Atwood's speech will be sent to all CBA members. In the meantime, please enjoy the full text which is attached below.
"So I will simply say: Thank you very much for this touching honour. It's been a grand journey-the journey of the bookfolk-and it continues. Long may you all be traveling companions upon it."

Conference Round-Up

CBA held five well-attended bookseller sessions at the conference, addressing supplier relations, e-books, leasing issues, sidelines and retail best practices. The panelists, presenters and moderators at each session were engaging, passionate and eager to share their expertise, experience and perspective. A member update will be sent out next week with highlights from each session.
The discussions in each session gave rise to talking points and action items that are going to strongly inform CBA's direction and focus. Tune in to June's Virtual Town Hall Call on Wednesday June 27 to learn more.

Famed Author Ray Bradbury has Died

Much-loved sci-fi fantasy author Ray Bradbury died last night, aged 91. While he is best known for his dystopian novel Farenheit 451, he was well known for The Martian Chronicles, Something Wicked This Way Comes and his many short story collections. Bradbury is survived by his four daughters.
"What I have always been is a hybrid author," Bradbury said in 2009. "I am completely in love with movies, and I am completely in love with theatre, and I am completely in love with libraries."
