Our Mission:
We exist to magnify God and spread a passion for His glory by making disciples and shepherding them to value Jesus Christ above everything else.
by Pastor Patrick Carmichael
HAPPY NEW YEAR! Another year has flown by and we enter 2018 expectantly with great excitement as to how God is going to grow us and conform us into the character of His Son. As we stand at the starting line of 2018, let's think about the finish line of 2018. What would you like to look back on, come December 31st, 2018, and see that you had accomplished, you had participated in, and what had taken place in your life? Based on your answer, what must you start doing today in order for those desires and goals to come to pass?
I know for myself and for our church, my greatest desire and resolution is to give my life to discipleship. That is, after all, the mission of our church as mandated by God, namely to make disciples (Matt. 28:19). But what does this look like? How do I know if I am doing it correctly, biblically, or even at all? Is discipleship merely hanging out with someone? Does it involve a sermon? What needs to take place so that I can be confident I am glorifying God in making disciples? And why should I be making disciples at all? I know that God commanded it so it is a matter of obedience, but is there more that I can learn from God's Word and be motivated by as to why He commanded us to make disciples? What is the ultimate goal in making disciples? If we don't know what we're aiming for, we'll hit nothing every time and think we are accomplishing something, when in fact we are not.
I want to answer all of these questions both biblically and practically, seeing what God says clearly in His Word as to what discipleship is and then looking practically together at how to make that happen in tangible, attainable steps. That's why we're going to take the month of January to dive deeply into the Scriptures during our church family Bible hour to look intently at discipleship. Starting  this Sunday, we'll be asking and answering all of the above questions and working together as a church on making this year a year filled with intentional and biblical discipleship.
So, I want to encourage you to come  this Sunday at  9:00 am to be a part of this study. Will you make a commitment this month to be a part of this study such that our collective understanding of what the Bible has to say about discipleship could be synthesized together, discussed and practically applied, and then lived out in 2018 and beyond? If you've ever wanted to lead a small group, this study is for you! If you've ever wanted to know how to read the Bible for yourself, this study is for you! If you've ever wanted to know how to encourage others in the truth, this study is for you! If you've ever wanted to grow in being a better spouse, parent, or friend, this study is for you! And if you've ever desired to glorify God by faithfully following Him as He has commanded us in Scripture, this study is most definitely for you!
I am beyond excited to see how God works in our church this year, starting this month, as we obediently submit to His Word, wrestle through what He has commanded us to do and how to live that out, and intentionally give ourselves to glorifying Him by making disciples and shepherding them to value Jesus Christ above all things!
This year is going to be amazing! Let's dive in on Sunday together and start this "adventure of a year" off right!
See you all Sunday at 9:00 am in the library! Bring your Bible, bring a friend, and bring a heart excited to stare at the glory of God in His Word and be amazed!
