Our Mission:
We exist to magnify God and spread a passion for His glory by making disciples and shepherding them to value Jesus Christ above everything else.
Daylight Saving Time: THIS WEEKEND!
by Pastor Patrick Carmichael
Well, it is that time of year again. It is my least favorite day of the year. Time to SPRING forward, or in the words of Count Guest in Princess Bride, "We've just sucked an hour of your life away, tell me, how do you feel?" Well Mr. six-fingered man, I feel AWFUL! I don't know about you, but the older I get the more daylight savings feels like really bad jet lag. Weeks later I'm thinking, "Man it was literally just ONE HOUR! Why does it feel like I just got home from a missions trip to the Philippines?!"
Coincidentally, my least favorite day of the year falls on my favorite day of the week, the Lord's Day. I feel like we should just move Daylight Savings to change on Mondays, just give us a double dose of the Mondays and get it over with, like ripping off a band-aid. But because it is on Sundays, we all tend to feel a little more tired than usual, and usually we are pretty tired to begin with. We walk in groggy and take a few songs to figure out where we even are. It can be a rough day.
But here's the good news. You and I have the same Spirit Who raised Jesus from the dead living inside of us (Rom.  8:11)! We have supernatural power that can quicken our spirit, focus our minds, and give us attentive hearts as we plead with Him to arrest our attention by the Scriptures. So, can I offer three practical suggestions for this weekend?
  • First, start TODAY by praying and asking God to help you prioritize the necessity of being a part of fellowship with believers on the Lord's Day. Read Hebrews 10:23-25 and be reminded of the glory that takes place on Sundays together as the church gathers!
  • Second, get up a little earlier tomorrow, find something productive and strenuous to do during the day, and go to bed an hour earlier tomorrow night. In our house, we parade around the house excitedly announcing, "Sunday starts on Saturday night," and we move around to each room to figure out what we need to do to prepare ourselves for Sunday. We get breakfast ready and all set out on the table for the morning, we get our clothes ready, picked out, and laid out ready to put on, and we get our hearts ready by having an extended time together in family devotions, reading, praying, and singing, and getting excited to be with the people of God the next day and to serve and love all with whom we come into contact. So, we'll be doing that an hour earlier tomorrow night getting excited for the Lord's Day.
  • Finally, go to bed praying on Saturday, asking God that regardless of how you feel the next day, you'll wake up with the goal of glorifying God and drinking deeply from His Word through fellowship, singing, and preaching. And as you rise, pray and ask God to invigorate your body, steady your mind, and prepare your heart. These are prayers and practical principles for every weekend, but especially highlighted this weekend due to daylight savings. Oh, and one last suggestion: coffee helps. Coffee always helps.
Praying for an amazing weekend for all of us and an excitement and anticipation for all that God is going to do  this Sunday  as we gather!
