We exist to magnify God and spread a passion for His glory by making disciples and shepherding them to value Jesus Christ above everything else.
The Christ-Centered Happiness of David Brainerd
by Pastor Patrick Carmichael
Do you read biographies of believers in church history? If that is not a common practice in your life I encourage you to start now. What a privilege it has been through the years to read intimate accounts of fellow brothers and sisters who have gone before us, following their Master with joy and gladness even in the midst of the most difficult of circumstances. There are many people I have been introduced to through books, people I have come to know, to love, and to feel like we are close friends. Many times I have been challenged by their faith, encouraged by their perseverance, and emboldened by their example. Christianity was never meant to be lived on an island, all by yourself, without the influence and impact of other believers. We need the "cloud of witnesses" surrounding us to encourage us, to challenge us, and to be a voice loudly and clearly speaking the Scriptures into our lives.
To that end, I encourage you to read this short article by Randy Alcorn highlighting the joy and happiness of David Brainerd, who even in the midst of the most painful circumstances and even though only living 29 years on this earth, still left an incredible legacy of happiness and joy in Christ, faithfully serving Him until His last breath. May we be encouraged and challenged to make every moment count this day and live to be satisfied in our Savior alone!
